OV-10 Bronco - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Bronco pilots were fond of pulling up next to F-4s, and then turning their propellers slightly in reverse, so the Bronco would drift backwards as the F-4 ran up its engine during preflight checkout.
The North Vietnamese nickname for a Bronco was "pig sty," perhaps because it resembled a fenced enclosure.
The Air-Force generally disliked the Bronco because it flew low and slow compared to a jet, and when acting as a forward air control, it was vulnerable to anti-aircraft artillery.

Application of the OV-10A Bronco in the light attack role by Light Attack Squadron Four in South Vietnam IV Corps Area has proved the Bronco to be an excellent light attack aircraft in every sense of the term.
The Navy Bronco aircraft and the squadron soon developed a sound reputation for providing highly effective and accurate firepower that was previously not available to the river patrol and amphibious forces.
An interesting discussion concerning close air support results with Bronco aircraft versus fleet attack jets took place, and it finally ended with CAPT Scott flying a mission with the "Black Ponies." The mission involved a lively air strike that resulted in destruction of a number of structures and bunkers, and the captain was much impressed.

 Model Airplane News: OV-10 Bronco
Enlarging my original plan by about 50 percent made the wingspan what I wanted, but an 80-inch Bronco turns out to be very large because the real airplane has a relatively short span to begin with; its length is nearly the same as its span.
The three Broncos completed from this plan all use the Spring Air* units with custom struts, and they continue to perform well.
I decided to take a look at a larger version that would, I hoped, fill the same bill as the original, i.e., it would be simple and affordable and designed for sport engines and inexpensive, off-the-shelf retracts.

 Rockwell OV-10A Bronco
The only real COIN (Counter Insurgency) plane to take part in the Southeast Asian war was the Rockwell OV-10A Bronco.
It went into action in 1968, barely two years after the first flight of the prototype, but did not have the chance to be used in such numbers as other planes which were admittedly less suited for the difficult and dangerous job of being the advance 'eye' of the DASC (Direct Air Support Center).
More like a helicopter than an airplane, the Rockwell Bronco was the ideal example of a tactical reconnaissance plane designed to work in close cooperation with ground forces.
