  Oakengates - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Oakengates is a town in Shropshire, England and now forms part of the new town of Telford.
A history of Oakengates was written by local historian Reverend Cartlidge whose name is commemorated in the name of the retirement home Cartlidge House.
The Shrewsbury to Wolverhampton railway line runs past the town and there is a station and a tunnel (Oakengates Tunnel).

 Telford - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Eventually it was named Telford after Scottish born civil engineer Thomas Telford who, in 1787, became Surveyor of Public Works for Shropshire.
It was built in the 1960s and 1970s as a New town in a former coal-mining area and enveloped a number of pre-existing towns and villages, such as Dawley, Donnington Wood, Oakengates, Wellington and Madeley.
In 1983 the M54 motorway opened, connecting the town to the M6 and thence the rest of the UK's motorway network.

Sometime in the early or mid-1900s the family moved to Oakengates, a small mining town in Shropshire.
Robert Derbyshire was an engineer in the coal mines, and eventually rose to some kind of supervisory position in one of the Oakengates collieries.
All of which belonged to the Lilleshall Iron Foundry Works, the main employer around Oakengates, with its own foundry, collieries, railway lines etc. There were three collieries: the Grange just off the Watling Street, the Granville half a mile away, and the Woodside.

In a special "Trinity Weekend" of activities and consultation, the Vicar has organised an open evening for people to come and talk about their memories of the 150-year-old-church and talk about what they would like to see the church become in the future.
"I think this has contributed to a feeling that the Church is deserting Oakengates, This is not the case, but we do need to ensure that the church, as a building, is available to the whole community seven days a week, not simply a place for Christians to come to on a Sunday.

He started Oakengates Aikido Club (Ken Mon Kan) in 1977, was promoted to Fukushidoin (Assistant National Coach) in the U.K.A. and further awarded the position of Shidoin (Senior National Coach), in 1990.
Mr Hayward formed the Shropshire Aikido Federation in 1992 which later became Te Shin Kai in 1993, which is one of the four houses within the U.K.A. Sensei Keith Hayward was awarded 6th Dan in 2003.

If we cannot get to matches we tend to head for one of the local pubs (usually The Duke of York; Oakengates in Telford, or the Elephant and Castle, St Georges, Telford).
This picture was taken in the section of the Robert Rowley garden in Oakengates, Telford which we use for playing wolf type games (such as "fetch the house brick", "chase the motorbike" and "bury the bus") with Sabre.
Covered in fur with a mouth full of teeth, Sabre ("The Wolf") is the size of a small pony and although gentle with those he knows, "The Wonderful Wolf" would never starve if ever released into the wild.
