Oakland International Airport has served the San Francisco Bay Area for more than 75 years and is responsible for $4.5 billion in economic activity annually in the San Francisco Bay Area, generating over 70,000 jobs for the region.
Oakland International is a revenue division of the Port of Oakland, an independent department of the City of Oakland.

Alameda County, in which Oakland is located, completed the implementation of a face-scanning system three months ago in the Oakland city jail.
Oakland is using face-scanning technology from Imagis Technologies in Vancouver, British Columbia.
The installation at Oakland International is part of a $2.65 million contract with the Alameda County Sheriff's Department to install Imagis' ID-2000 and Computerized Arrest and Booking System (CABS) technology, according to a statement from Imagis.

Oakland International Airport is about to adopt a security system that would help identify wanted terrorists and criminals using facial-recognition technology.
Oakland Airport is the first in the Bay Area to install this technology, although SFO and San Jose are also looking into similar high-tech identification systems.
Oakland Airport spokeswoman Cyndy Johnson said the new system is "just one more tool in our tool chest for law enforcement" at the facility which is used by about 35,000 passengers daily.

As a domestic airport it is OK. As an international airport, Oakland leaves much to be desired.
