The Oakland Oaks were a minor league baseball team which played in the Pacific Coast League from 1903 until 1955.
It was in Oakland that Stengel developed his talent for “platooning,” i.e., juggling his lineup to maximize each player’s potential in given situations, that served him so famously as manager of the New York Yankees.
Oaks Park was demolished in 1957, replaced by a Pepsi-Cola bottling plant.

In the early years of the ABA, the Oaks were the only ABA franchise in "direct" geographic competition with an NBA team: the San Francisco Warriors.
The young Oaks dominated their competition, prompting some basketball writers to speculate that the Oaks were building an "ABA dynasty." During the first few months of the season, Barry was spectacular and averaged 35.1 points per game.
The Oaks logo is actually an adaptation of the acorn character logo that Susman originally designed for the old Pacific Coast League baseball Oakland Oaks, who left Oakland in 1955.

The Oaks were generally considered “the other team” in the Bay Area, languishing in the shadow of the high-powered San Francisco Seals, who had won the PCL championship in 1943, 1944 and 1945 and were a perennial contender.
The only Oakland players with stats among the league leaders were Les Scarsella, whose 22 home runs in a part-time role tied for second in the league; Spec Shea, whose 1.66 ERA was second-best in the league (to Jansen's 1.57); and Brooks Holder, whose 131 walks led the league.
The 1948 Oaks did enjoy the services of a couple of offensive stars: Nick Etten was second in the league in both homers and RBI, and Catfish Metkovich was fourth in the league in average.

The Angels were a charter member of the PCL in 1903 and over the next 50 years were probably one of the most successful franchises along with the Seals in terms of pennants.
The Oaks over the years were a competitive team but didn't win another pennant until the "Nine Old Men" of the 1948 Oaks.
The Solons were a charter member of the PCL in 1903, then were moved to Tacoma in 1904, and returned to Sacramento late in the 1905 season.

The '47 competition was against the Oakland Oaks, the Seals great rivals, and so there was a lot of excitement among diehard fans in Hawaii.
I suppose it could be of interest to current PCL fans, although so many of the former league cities have Big League clubs now, pretty much along the lines of the old league --- Seattle, Oakland, San Francisco, San Diego, and two in the Los Angeles area.
He was a Texan who had played in the PCL, and wouldn't re-sign with the big club, preferring to return to the Coast, which he did, never returning to the Majors.
