Oakland University is a medium-sized public university located in Rochester, Michigan.
Oakland University was created in 1957 by Michigan State University when Matilda Dodge-Wilson, widow of automobile magnate John Francis Dodge, and her second husband Alfred Wilson donated their 1,500-acre estate, including Meadow Brook Hall, Sunset Terrace and all its other buildings and collections, along with $2 million.
Oakland's sports teams were known as the Pioneers until the school moved from NCAA Division II to NCAA Division I in 1997.

Oakland University has partnered with St. John Providence Hospital to expand its innovative accelerated second degree program in nursing to increase the number of registered nurses, and the number of nursing faculty prepared to teach in schools of nursing.
Oakland University will be offering its program at St. John Conner Creek Village in the Northeast section of Detroit.  This program funding will allow the education of 75 more nursing students as well as educate more future teachers of nursing.
