The Oakland Zoo is the brainchild of juniors Matt Cohen, Zack Hale and Jon St. George, who have been working nonstop to create what Cohen calls, "a legitimate student section." And they're well on their way, having signed up over 1,200 members, securing a number of sponsors and becoming an official club on campus.
The Zoo will be camping out the morning of Nov. 18 when the individual student tickets for the opening game against Duquesne go on sale, signing up even more people and handing out shirts.
The Zoo is also collaborating with Pitt Program Council in sponsoring trips to a number of away games, such as West Virginia, Penn State and Notre Dame.

Oakland's dream of becoming home to a pair of rare giant pandas took a step forward Wednesday, when city and Chinese officials said construction on new panda quarters would begin next spring at the Oakland Zoo.
Oakland needs to raise $7 million to $10 million in private funds to build the new panda quarters and another $1.5 million to $1.8 million each year for research and care for the animals, Chang said.
Joel Parrot, director of the Oakland Zoo, says he is confident the zoo could care for the pandas, although it will have to hire a legion of new employees, including extra security officers and keepers.
