 OBAL
Through the end of FY93, the OBAL table was used for both carryforward and TIP allocation.
To reflect balances on OBAL that more closely approximate cash, adjustments to the OBAL balance will be made for account receivable and inventory balances that are recorded on the general ledger.
In subsequent years, the amount of the adjustment will be the change in the balance sheet account from the prior year, so that the net amount affecting OBAL is the most previous fiscal year-end balance of the asset.

This kind of effort and focus means that WMS providers will stay ahead of their ERP counterparts in terms of functionality, says Obal, even if it's just by a few steps.
Obal believes that both ERP and WMS providers can serve warehouses better by adding certain ancillary (but cumulatively important) functionality.
For example, he says that most ERP warehouse products don't have a built-in task queue, which is what directs workers to do proper putaway and that WMS providers are weak when it comes to recalculating the velocity codes of items.
