Kelley went on to discuss a tribalist element he detects in the Objectivist movement and presented his own vision of what an Objectivism movement should be like.
Many Objectivists, on the other hand, have a negativeness and exaggerated pessimism about the world; they speak of "an Objectivist world" and "enemies of Objectivism" and generally regard outsiders with suspicion, thus cutting themselves off from society.
Kelley announced the founding of _The Institute for Objectivist Studies_ by himself, George Walsh, Walter Donway, and Murray Franck, with Kelley serving as executive director "for as short a period as possible." He said that the institute's main mission will be to encourage scholarly work on Objectivism, especially work aimed at new knowledge.

Liberty - Ayn Rand and the Curse of Kant
Objectivists, however, say that there is something wrong with the libertarian movement because it combines people with different philosophical views.
The Objectivists' chief example of this historical process is their contention that the philosophical ideas of Kant led to the Gulag and to Auschwitz.
Here we have an attempt to save the Objectivist theory that Kant is responsible for the rise of collectivism by arguing that, for all Kant's individualism and libertarianism, his ethical theory contained a weakness which could only have led his successors to replace this ethical theory with a more collectivist one.

In Objectivist terms, this means a single fundamental issue: in the human realm, one must distinguish the rational from the irrational, the thinkers from the evaders.
The mass base of such movements are not evaders of the same kind; but most of the followers are dishonest in their own passive way.
An Objectivist is not primarily an academician or a political activist (though he may well devote his professional life to either or both pursuits).

Two Cheers for Modernity - The Free Radical Online
Most of the praise Objectivists have heaped upon the Enlightenment is entirely well-deserved; if the choice is between Enlightenment values and the values of the religious Right, I will happily fight to the death for Enlightenment values.
But just as Objectivists can agree with religious conservatives in condemning relativism, without regarding government programs inculcating morality as the proper response to the problem, so Objectivists can agree with academic leftists in condemning various forms of non-governmental oppression, without signing on to the Left's political agenda.
All I am saying, then, is that it is a mistake for Objectivists (and their fellow travelers, like myself) to conceptualise themselves simply as defenders of Enlightenment culture against its premodern and postmodern rivals.

If the Objectivist umbrella organization were a non-profit organization and carried out activities that could qualify it for united way funding, then Objectivist employees could tithe to the umbrella organization instead of united way.

Objectivist movement - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Objectivist movement is a movement to popularize Ayn Rand's Objectivism.
As with other movements, the Objectivist movement has experienced schisms and ostracisms since its foundation, with various individuals being publicly denounced for their views.
Along with their relationship, Branden's status as "second-in-command" to Rand was terminated and he was ostracised from the Objectivist movement.

At the root of these questions is the fact that the Objectivist movement, since its beginnings, has found itself struggling with the problems of self-definition and of moral boundaries.
Such “unadmitted anti-Objectivists”—declared the previously mentioned Objectivist philosopher— “have one foot (or toe) in the Objectivist world and the rest of themselves planted firmly in the conventional world.” This formulation came as surprising news to those of us who had always thought that there was one “world,” and that we were all in it.
Thus does a movement that began with the vital, creative, worldly image of Dagny Taggart come instead to resemble an aging, reclusive spinster who—reflecting upon her botched life—takes cold comfort in the knowledge that she has at least kept her virginity.

Charles Reznikoff (1894-1976) was, along with Louis Zukofsky, one of the chief voices of the "Objectivist" movement, a loosely-affiliated poetic movement consisting of 2nd generation American modernist poets.
The movement (not to be confused with Ayn Rand's political philosophy) owed a great deal to the Imagist movement of the early modernists.
In addition to his reputation as an "Objectivist," Reznikoff is esteemed as one of the foremost Jewish-American poets of the 20th century; his (Pinkser 244-248).

Timothy Chase Responds - The Free Radical Online
There exists a great deal of alienation within the Objectivist movement, that is, a feeling that the world is against us, and that, as individuals, we lack the ability to change this world, but must remain where it is safe, with those who believe the same things we do.
In place of the efficacy of the individual, many Objectivists tacitly believe in a kind of millenarian efficacy of the movement, the success of which continually recedes into the distant future.
Among the dogmatic Objectivists, a common problem is that of emotional repression — for fear that their emotions might conflict with the philosophy they accept.

In response to such personal attacks, Objectivists tend to distance themselves from Rand "the woman" before discussing Rand "the philosopher." Or they defensively explain that it is an ad hominem – that is, a logical fallacy – to discredit the truth of a person's statements by reference to that person's behavior.
Third: the Objectivist movement is historically important; its record should be preserved and presented accurately in a manner that provides perspective on its development.

Louis Zukofsky (1904-1978) was, along with Charles Reznikoff, one of the leading figures in the "Objectivist" movement of second generation American modernist poets.
Zukofsky, protege and friend of both Ezra Pound (with whom he shared a lenghty correspondence) and William Carlos Williams, was nominally the leader of the movement, editing a special issue of Poetry dedicated to the movement and collaborating in the establishment of the short-lived Objectivist Press.
"Objectivist poetry" (which has nothing to do with Ayn Rand's political philosophy) is largely a blanket term, describing a group of associated artists rather than articulating a programmatic approach to the composition of poetry.

There is a movement among many of these homosexuals and their sympathizers to take over Objectivism and change it from a philosophy to a, "movement," or "way of life;" to make it inclusive of ideas and practices inimical to Objectivism.
The movement repudiates anyone calling themselves an Objectivist who does not support homosexual practices, as well as, embracing them as normal, moral, and benevolent, while claiming themselves and their movement to be the "true Objectivism." It is this movement this book analyzes and exposes.
It begins with a brief overview of Objectivist moral values, their relationship to man's nature, and applies these values to the nature of choice, normality, normal human behavior, and the relationship of normality to morality.

But this is not all that is meant today by those who talk about "the Objectivist movement." While the promotion of the ideas of Objectivism is good, and the spread of those ideas is celebratory, the idea of an Objectivist movement to accomplish these things is mistaken and anti-philosophical.
Promoting an Objectivist movement makes Objectivism the very thing Objectivists reject, doctrinaire and cultic, something to be studied and embraced, not something to be critically examined and understood.

Ayn Rand - Article from FactBug.org - the fast Wikipedia mirror site
Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, Rand developed and promoted her Objectivist philosophy through both her fiction http://www.aynrand.org/site/PageServer?pagename=objectivism_fiction and non-fiction http://www.aynrand.org/site/PageServer?pagename=objectivism_nonfiction works, and by giving talks at several east-coast universities, largely through the Nathaniel Branden Institute ("the NBI") which Branden had established to promote her philosophy.
Many of her closest "Collective" friends began to part ways, and during the late 70's her activities within the formal Objectivist movement began to decline, a situation which increased after the death of her husband in 1979.
Another schism in the movement occurred in 1989, when Objectivist David Kelley wrote an article called "A Question of Sanction," http://www.wetheliving.com/boston/sanction.html in which he defended his choice to speak to non-Objectivist libertarian groups.
