At 1,149 feet, the Stratosphere Tower is the tallest freestanding observation tower in the United States and the tallest building west of the Mississippi River.
Visitors to the Tower are whisked from ground level to the observation decks in less than 30 seconds in double decker elevators traveling at speeds of 1,800 feet per minute or three floors a second.

The ride opened in March 1997 but closed in 1999 as it quickly became known for it's roughness, low ridership and inability to run properly in windy weather - the cars failed to complete the circuit even if the wind speed was quite low.
The ride, the Star Dancer, is an observation tower-style ride where passengers board gondolas which are transported to the top of a tower.
Rides are $22 per person, with a choice of three ride options: upright throughout, upright then rotated head-first towards the ground, or head-first facing the ground the whole ride.

He said the ride was designed with a manual override that allows workers to bring the X-Scream back to the observation deck in emergencies, but he could not explain why the tourists weren't returned to safety until power came back on.
The ride was designed to stop in high winds and would have returned had the winds subsided.

The X-Scream thrill ride is located on the Stratosphere Tower, the largest free-standing observation tower in the United States and the tallest building west of the Mississippi River.
Once riders are loaded in and secured, the ride lifts to a 30-degree angle and the vehicle is released to dive over the Tower’s edge towards the ground far below.

It seems that after observation, no one is sneaking onto the ride (which, now that I think of it, might be an interesting quirk and require more security guards).
The fact that the ride is placed without borders (as opposed to the 3D Cinema) makes things confusing.
To give a measure of boundaries to the ride, I've opted to place fencing around the ride as seen in the screenshot.

One of the other rides I went on was an observation tower ride at the park, where you get into a huge doughnut-shaped glass room and sit on a bench going around it, and you get lifted up from the ground.
I didn't see the show, but when I was on the observation tower ride, I seen that 103.5 KISS FM was there, amongst other stations that I'm not too familliar with.

In 2002, the park will add a turbo drop tower; Screamscape (www.screamscape.com) reports that the park may run this as an observation tower ride during the day and early evening, then switch to its standard thrill ride configuration at night.
The ride gets going with a good, steep, straight drop with considerable air (just the way it’s supposed to be done), followed by several more air-inducing hills and the infamous dragon mouth.
