Observer (MST3K) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Observer is a hyperintelligent, psychic alien from a planet of fellow aliens confusingly sharing the name "Observer".
Observer joins the mad scientists ("The Mads") after his planet is inadvertently destroyed by Mike Nelson.
Observer claims, like his fellow Observers, to be omniscient and omnipotent, much like Q and his people from Star Trek: The Next Generation, but frequently fails to demonstrate these supposed abilities.

 The New York Observer
MST3K is, I’ve suggested, in its endless fragmentary tapestry of comic cultural references projected upon the scrim of truly bad movies, nothing less than the Dead Sea Scrolls of American culture.
The MST3K Experiment subject’s response in this tongue-in-cheek framing device is to build a couple of makeshift robots with whom he watches the bad movies, and most of the two-hour show consists of us, the TV viewers, watching them watch the awful flicks and interpolate a stream of brilliant wisecracks over the soundtrack.
The official MST3K site discourages fans from making the Sci-Fi Channel the villain; they say they have a good relationship with the channel and that the best thing to do to advance the cause of the show’s survival is to promote viewership and thus ratings for the final 13 episodes of the last season.

Mystery Science Theater 3000 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Mystery Science Theater 3000 (1988–1999), usually abbreviated MST3K, is an American cult television comedy series created by Joel Hodgson featuring a man and his robot sidekicks who are trapped on a satellite in space and forced to watch particularly bad movies, especially (but not limited to) the science fiction genre.
MST3K has only had two non-staffers make guest appearances on the show: Minnesota Viking Robert Smith (as "Howard" in episode 803 The Mole People) and film critic Leonard Maltin (as himself in episode 909 Gorgo).
MST3K is actually the password for the final level in the computer game Mac Attack.

Give me all the MST3K episodes--plus a few good older British comedies--and I would be content to hole up in an abandoned Titan missile silo somewhere until this nation implodes as a consequence of its vain experiment with liberalism and its related idiocies.
MST3K came about in 1988, during a better time for this society when the rock music was about kicking ass (instead of '90s music which is about being an ass), when Americans had confidence in their country and themeselves, when they were not coerced into the desire to be a victim-dependant.
MST3K was funny when they didn't rerun the same damn episodes over and over.

Some noted celebrity fans of MST3K are film director and producer Steven Spielberg, former Vice President Al Gore, Time film critic Richard Corliss and MSNBC anchor Keith Olbermann.
The station's declining fortunes forced it to cancel MST3K, but the creators used a short "best-of" reel from the KTMA shows to sell the concept to The Comedy Channel, a national cable channel that was then being created.
The series finale premiered on August 8, 1999, although an episode produced earlier in the season was the last new episode of MST3K broadcast on September 12, 1999.

Although the introduction to this article leaves the cultural sources of the MST3K riffs "as mental exercises for the reader", it seems to me that some of the more obscure ones might benefit from a brief, explicit reference.
These quotes should be something notable about MST3K, like clever (not trite) jokes on dialog and citations of quotes from other works or cultural references that aren't already beaten to death.
For most MST3K episodes, this is the only place where the title appears, and such a link follows the principle of least astonishment.

He came up with the idea of MST3K eight years ago, and amazingly it has remained fresh and funny ever since.
More inventive than tripe like Dream On, MST3K acknowledges mass communication's omnipresence in a culture reared on sitcoms and Sunday reruns, and Hodgson makes his program simultaneously nostalgic and sardonic.

Mystery Science Theater 3000 (1988–1999), usually abbreviated MST3K, is a cult television comedy series created by Joel Hodgson featuring a man and his robot sidekicks supposedly trapped on a satellite in space and forced to make fun of particularly bad movies.
Among the movies dismembered on the series are Santa Claus Conquers the Martians, Manos: The Hands of Fate (some consider this one to be the best of the series), five Japanese Gamera monster movies, Marooned starring Gregory Peck and Gene Hackman, and the Ed Wood film Bride of the Monster.

To my chagrin (and the chagrin of every one of those aforementioned diehards), The Sci-Fi Channel thought it fit to cancel the series this year, making room for more pathetic "X-Files" ripoffs and the same-old Star Trek reruns.
Joel Hodgson, a stand-up comic and magician, created the show in '88, wedding the practice of zinging bad movies from the peanut gallery with a bizarrely comedic sci-fi setting that found him trapped in a satellite with a handful of robotic puppets.
