UFO duley signed to Chrysalis Records in 1974.
Thus, 1978's 'Obsession' was to be the UFO's last studio album to feature the mercurial German axeman, who after personal problems and long-standing internal disagreements with the band quit to rejoin The Scorpions and later to form his own band MSG.
However to everyone's surprise Mogg revived the name UFO in 1985 with former members Paul Raymond and Paul Gray, plus ex-Magnum skinsman Jim Simpson and Japanese guitarist Atomic Tommy M, for the album 'Misdemeanour', which was a brave attempt to rekindle former glories by fanning the old UFO flame with its superlative guitarwork.

Once inside the album one was greeted instantly with the record's emotional anchor, lead single 'Only You Can Rock Me' rumbling and trundling forth blessed with a richness of melody that took the track into the regal realm of heavy Queen.
It was something that we thought perhaps would give the album a bit more of a raw edge; plus you could always put the polish on it in the studio.
Obsession may not be the UFO album a great many fans point to as a favourite, but at least it demonstrated a brave versatility and will to greatness practiced by more successful '70s behemoths like Sabbath, Purple, Zeppelin and Queen.

This is the most successful studio album in the US for UFO and one that sounds a lot like The Babys` "Broken Heart" in a lot of spots, despite all the flashy guitar work of Micheal Schenker.
"UFO`s Obsession was to be their last studio record with star guitarist Michael Schenker.
UFO hinted at their talents with releases such as Obsession and Lights Out, but it was their next release, the live Strangers in the Night, where it all came together for them.

UFO are back with their latest studio album, the second to feature guitarist Vinnie Moore, not to mention a well received live set.
The album doesn't offer anything unexpected or out of character for the band, but it does deliver 11 strong blues tinged rockers that is more or less going to be everything UFO fans expect from the band.
The album didn't throw out any classics first spin, but on repeated listens I found each song to be more engaging and as a body of work, the album flows effortlessly from start to finish.

UFO's influence was strongly felt in the '80s metal scene and they have been cited as a primary influence of Kirk Hammett of Metallica and Dave Mustaine of Megadeth among others.
UFO's early work was influenced by the space rock sound (their second album was subtitled "One Hour Space Rock") that was modestly popular at the time but the band realized the style was somewhat limited.
UFO is still the rock power house they were, and they've showed no signs of calling it quits and can be expected to be recording and touring for the foreseeable future.

Aside from the great classic albums UFO has put out over the years like the “Lights Outalbum back in 1977, or the “Obsession” album in 1978, or even the newer albums like “Covenant” released in 2000, or their “Sharks” album in 2002, the legendary rock band still continues to write, record, and tour.
UFO is currently still touring in support of their latest album, titled “You Are Here,” released in 2004.

Then the album takes a walk with the blues with `Some Other Guy' which has all the ingredients of the Budweiser advert, you know, baby's gone, dog, rain, harmonica etc. and it's a classic; Vinnie's guitar work is phenomenal as it is throughout the CD.

The band wanted to move into a direction that collided with his own vision, so in 1978 he left UFO to work on a few tracks with his brother Rudolf for the Scorpion's album "Lovedrive." He even toured with the Scorpions at the time, and the tour was superb, with a triple axe attack.
Next came another self titled album, to avoid confusion with the self titled album thing, the first one was called The Michael Schenker Group and the second one was called MSG.
The result was an album that was not quite as heavy as what Michael had hoped for, but it was the best album he ever recorded.

However, after 1978's Obsession, Schenker left the group, first to rejoin the Scorpions and later to form his own band.
After 1983's Making Contact, UFO dissolved, only to re-form two years later for Misdemeanor; however, the album was met with little response, and they again called it quits.

UFO are one of the most criminally underrated bands of all time, yet they continue to pump out their unfashionable brand of clever, crafty hard rock well into their fourth decade, showing no signs of slowing down.
Thirty-five years after their AKA Records debut, they return with a rock-solid album in 'You Are Here', featuring a new lineup (This band has had more lineups than possibly any other band in history) and a renewed sense of purpose.
Although most of the album isn't heavy metal per se (There is a more laid-back and purposefully restrained tone to the entire album), there is enough heaviness here to satisfy most listeners, especially older fans.

There was a time when UFO was one of the most innovative metal acts around, hat with Michael Schenker's guitar tricks and vocalist Phil Mogg's orchestra arrangements.
The one item that had been most missing on UFO's previous three albums had been good songs, and those are back now in quantity.
Guitarist Atomic Tommy M is hardly in the same league with Schenker or Chapman, but he holds up well enough, and the quality songwriting easily covers up any deficiencies of musicianship.

UFO is one of the standout British metal bands of the 70's, now celebrating over thirty years in the business.
It took a few years for them to get off the ground (the first three albums are not highly regarded), but once the classic Way/Mogg/Schenker/Parker lineup was in place, the band put out some great metal tunes such as "Lights Out", "Doctor Doctor", and (personal favorite) "Rock Bottom".
By the mid-eighties their major success was behind them, but an endless array of revolving lineups and albums have surfaced over the years, keeping the name alive.

WRITTEN IN THE SAND - REVIEW
Overall the album has a very late 80's feel to it, and in many respects is probably the mix of impressive guitar work (but not overly so) and good, catchy songs that `Perfect Timing' attempted to produce, but sadly didn't quite achieve.
Track by track, the album starts by crashing straight into the first song `Brave New World', which sets the scene for the rest of the album with it's strong riffs and catchy rhythm and chorus.
The next track `Essence' is the original instrumental of the album, and begins with an appearance by Schenkers daughter, after whom the title is named.

But it was during the album's supporting tour that another up-and-coming outfit, UFO, took a keen interest in the young Schenker and managed to pry the guitarist away from the Scorpions.
But UFO's time in the limelight would be fleeting, as alcohol/substance overindulgence and erratic behavior drew a wedge between Schenker and the rest of UFO (the guitarist also became famous for disappearing from the group without any notice, leaving them high and dry mid-tour).
Schenker's pace of issuing solo albums only increased during the early 21st century, as such titles as 2000's all-instrumental Adventures of the Imagination, plus a staggering three albums in 2001 alone (MS 2000: Dreams and Expressions, Odd Trio, and Be Aware of Scorpions) saw the light of day.

From the opening song, with its repetitive piano and hushed, wide-eyed lyrics about a UFO sighting, it's clear that Stevens is a different breed of singer-songwriter.
