The four year training program in obstetrics and gynecology is oriented toward preparing residents to practice the full breath of the specialty upon completion of residency or enter into a fellowship program.
At Jackson Memorial Hospital the obstetrical experience is divided according to level of training with some overlaps; i.e., the first year resident is responsible for normal obstetrics, the second year resident normal and surgical obstetrics, the third year resident with obstetric resident with high-risk obstetrics.
In gynecology and gyn-oncology the resident is responsible for the ward admissions and is the principle surgeon in most abdominal cases, complicate laparoscopic cases and vaginal cases.
