  Ocean's Eleven: Cinephiles Movie Review
Adding to Ocean's Eleven overall languid quality is the editing style, mostly characterized by a camera that stays on a character long enough to capture its reaction to the scene's humorous remarks or one-liners before cutting to the following scene.
Although this choice allows the character/actor to pause and "share" the humor with the viewer and encourage him or her to sympathize (at least on this level) with the character, the rhythm of the story's narration is repeatedly (although subtly) paused without really offering significant information about the character.
In spite of the effort that these anecdotes represent, however, all in all, Ocean's Eleven deprives the viewer of the type of heightened suspense desirable for the heist genre, and rather, distracts him and her with its superficial treatment of character and plot.

Danny Ocean's old outfit from WWII have been home 15 years-- and they are finding there is no place in a corporate-government bureaucratized United States for independent minds--they are all facing a "system" that wants no part of men who think for themselves or want justice and are willing to work to get it.
The plan requires commando-like precision and skills--so Ocean recruits his hungry war buddies, ranging from Conte with a serious heart condition who wants to do something for his son, to Lawford who just wants to recapture the wartime sense of purpose, to bright, talented Sammy Davis, stuck on a garbage truck.
At the end, the eleven wander into the sunlight, to ponder perhaps another scheme to get the justice that seems to be nowhere for them.

Ocean’s Eleven, a showcase for the tough-guy shenanigans of that glitzy showbiz gang known as the Rat Pack--Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Peter Lawford, Joey Bishop, and, of course, Frank Sinatra.
Each one of the eleven men had a specific job, whether it was to get the keys that open the designated doors, blow-up the power line tower, drive the getaway garbage truck or actually steal the money.
Santos confronts Danny Ocean and several of his men and they try to then avoid him by attempting to send the money home in one of the coffin of Tony Bergdorf, who died from a heart attack immediately after the robbery was completed.

As with its predecessor, Ocean's Eleven opens with its titular hero Danny Ocean (George Clooney stepping into the Frank Sinatra role) eager for a new challenge.
What Ocean doesn't tell the group is that there's another reason he's coordinating the heist: the three casinos they're robbing are all owned by ruthless gambling mogul Terry Benedict (Andy Garcia), who just happens to be married to Ocean's former love Tess (Julia Roberts).
Ocean's Eleven was updated by scribe Ted Griffin and marked the third feature shot by director Steven Soderbergh under the alias Peter Andrews.

One development I particularly like in today's Heist movies is that it is not assured that the crooks, who we have identified with throughout the whole film; lose their loot, their freedom, or their lives.
"Ocean's Eleven" has a PG-13 rating, but youth writer and family film critic Judy Marker, age 14 pronounced the film "Not For Kids." For her it was too long and oriented for adults, was her verdict.
But "Ocean's Eleven" is a Heist Movie that works because it blends these elements fairly well, although there is a bit of a lag in the middle before the heist starts to operate.

Ocean is the typical fraudster who lies, cheats and steals his way through life but in the main is a good guy who will look out for you.
With a sequel on the way (“Oceans Twelve”…ahem), one might shuffle uncomfortably but if Soderbergh repeats the formula and introduces a character with a new dynamic, we could be in for another winner.

 Ocean's Eleven 1960
Ocean's Eleven, if not a measure of the 50s (and early 60s), was a measure of Mega-Stars of the time.
Ocean's Eleven also shows them in the personas that they were known for: Cool, hard drinking, womanizing, tough and tumble well dressed men.
This film is also a good film from that time period, with an age old story: a group of men get together to pull a deal, the success of which will allow them to kick back and enjoy the rest of their lives.

His slightly self-mocking charm is perfect for the role of harmless scoundrel Danny Ocean, so when Roberts accuses him of being a liar and a thief, he simply replies, "I only lied about being a thief".
But OCEAN'S ELEVEN isn't aiming for suspense and realism, it's aiming to put a big, stupid grin on your face, and even the slightly lazy ending doesn't prevent it from doing that.

Going where the Rat Pack never did, George Clooney and pals are aiming to take the 'Ocean's Eleven' concept on tour, with the gang of thieves now pulling off heists in three of Europe's greatest cities (Rome, London and Berlin) rather than keeping to the original 1960 movie's Las Vegas location.
I had minor quibbles with Ocean's Eleven (it wasn't as funny *or* as action/thriller-oriented as I expected), but I did appreciate that the stars all seemed to be having a good time, and there was a certain most-Golden-Age-of-Cinema glee to be had in seeing that much star power in one movie.
In addition to the gang this time around being one person larger (symbolically, the 12th person is Julia Roberts' character who wasn't in the gang in the first movie), it is likely that there will be some cast members who won't be returning, whose place in the group will be replaced by someone else.

Ocean's Eleven improves on 1960's Rat Pack original with supernova casting, a slickly updated plot and Steven Soderbergh's graceful touch behind the camera.
Soderbergh reportedly relished the opportunity "to make a movie that has no desire except to give pleasure from beginning to end", and he succeeds on those terms, blessed by the casting of George Clooney as Danny Ocean, the title role originated by Frank Sinatra.
On the DVD: Ocean's Eleven on disc is hardly swarming with special features, but just like all good heists it's quality not quantity that counts.

In Oceans Eleven, cool colors are used throughout the entirety of the film because it helps calm the audience from then building suspense when the colors the actors are wearing are relaxing and soothing and because when the surroundings are not vibrant and explosive the mood seems to change and contradict the plot.
