Victoria’s best racing yachts are lining up this weekend for one of the State’s oldest and most competitive interclub team events, the Association Cup or, to give its original name the Victorian Yacht Racing Association Challenge Cup.
Seven clubs have nominated three-boat teams, a total of 70 boats, in the various divisions — IRC A, IRC B, AMS A and AMS B for the Association Challenge Cup and for the Yachting Victoria President’s Challenge Trophy and the Yachting Victoria Vice-President’s Challenge Trophy.
The Royal Yacht of Victoria team of Chuzpah (Bruce TAYLOR), Adams Den (Graeme PAUL) and Toecutter (Robert HICK) in IRC A faces strong competition in defending the Cup this year again teams from Royal Geelong Yacht Club, Royal Brighton Yacht Club, the Ocean Racing Club of Victoria and Sandringham Yacht Club.

At 1028 today, the Ocean Racing Club of Victoria received a report that the Hobart bound yacht Affrayed Knot had been dismasted 45 nautical miles (83  km) south of Phillip Island.  There were no injuries to the crew of 6.
The race record of 1 day 23 hours and 15 minutes was safe for another year with the elapsed time for the line honours boat of 2 days, 16 hours, 27 minutes and 10 seconds.
At the afternoon sked the surprise of the race was unfolding with the 47 foot Prowler sailing down the coast to be neck and neck with the Volvo 60 Indec Merit, having covered 175 miles in the 480 miles race.

A number of other boats raced to Moshio’s assistance and stood by the vessel as the bailed the water out of the boat.  Coastguard Melbourne and the Melbourne Water Police were informed.  The Water Police scrambled their Air Wing in response.
There have been a total of 4 retirements from the Melbourne to Launceston Yacht Race and 2 retirements from the Melbourne to Hobart Yacht Race.  8 of the Melbourne to Launceston entrants decided not to compete prior to the race as did 3 of the Melbourne to Hobart Yacht Race boats.
The Mariner Melbourne to Launceston Yacht Race is Australia's oldest offshore yacht race and the 5th oldest in the world.

Three Peaks Race starts from Beauty Point on the Tamar River this coming Good Friday afternoon, taking the fleet of 14 yachts, their sailors and runners around the spectacular eastern coastline of Tasmania to finish at Hobart on the Derwent River on Easter Monday.

Melbourne’s Royal Brighton Yacht Club has received excellent support for its inaugural and innovative Top of the Bay Regatta to be sailed over this coming Labor Day long weekend, with more than 50 boats already nominated and other late entries expected today.
Serious racing will start on Saturday with two windward/leeward races for all divisions, followed by two more similar races on Sunday and a final race around fixed bay marks on Monday.
Apart from the yacht racing, Royal Brighton Yacht Club on Saturday will host a family day and festival on the new marina as well as offering Try Sailing and entertainment.
