Zur Stadt Ochsenhausen gehören seit der Gemeindereform 1975 auch die früher selbstständigen Gemeinden Reinstetten, Hattenburg und Mittelbuch mit den Ortsteilen Wennedach, Laubach, Eichen, Goppertshofen, Bebenhaus und Einöden.
Ochsenhausen und der Ortsteil Reinstetten liegen an der Oberschwäbischen Barockstraße mit vielen Sehenswürdigkeiten.

Ochsenhausen is also called "Himmelreich des Barock" (heavens realm of baroque), because there's a big monastery which was at its height in the baroque period, it throns on a hill over the whole town.
In 1806 Ochsenhausen was annexed by the Kingdom of Württemberg, and in 1871 it became part of the Empire of Germany.
