Topic: Ocker

In the News (Fri 1 Jan 10)

  Handbook of Texas Online:
Ocker is a farming and church community at the intersection of Farm roads 320 and 53, eleven miles east of Temple in eastern Bell County.
In 1890 Ocker had a general store, a mill and gin, a sorghum manufactory, a doctor, and a barber.
Ocker slowly declined thereafter; it lost its post office in 1904 and declined to a population of twenty by 1933.

Ocker punched his approach 30 feet too far but Kelsay left his shot 31 feet short.
Ocker qualified for the U.S. Mid-Amateur two years ago, but had to sit out for five months last year after surgery to his left shoulder.

Ockerism   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-20)
It is all part of the ocker syndrome and heavy drinking is much more important than sexual prowess.
The talented comedian Ron Frazer appeared in a series of TV sketches from which I retain a mental picture of him leaning on a bar, speaking with a broad Australian accent, probably wearing shorts and thongs, and periodically sinking a glass of beer.
It is true that when someone claims, "He's a bit of an ocker", Australians do immediately form a picture of a very Australian character: A bloke who is a bit rough around the edges, who enjoys his beer, loves his sport and demonstrates all of the stereotypical Australian traits.

 Schock v. Ocker Insurance Co., 248 N.W.2d 786 (N.D. 1976)
Pilgrim cross-claimed against Ocker, alleging fraudulent misrepresentation and a breach of the duty to disclose material facts by Ocker in submitting the application for coverage.
Thereafter, Ocker brought a third-party claim against Grant County State Bank, seeking indemnification in the event judgment was rendered against it.
It is argued by Pilgrim that this statutory provision imposes a duty upon insurance agents to communicate to their principal, in good faith, all facts within their knowledge which are material, i.e., which would influence the principal in the formation of an estimate of the disadvantages of the proposed contract.

 World Wide Words: Ocker
An Ocker can be boorish and aggressive, blinkered, often strongly nationalistic in speech and outlook, though my impression is that tolerance and good humour are as common.
The archetypal Ocker may be pictured in shearer’s singlet, shorts and thongs, leaning against a bar, sinking large quantities of beer.
The original Ocker was a character of that name played by the Australian comedian, actor and writer Ron Frazer, in a late-night satirical television series The Mavis Bramston Show aired between 1965 and 1968.
