  About Octagon
The Octagon Center for the Arts, an outgrowth of the Ames Society for the Arts, is a non-profit organization which began on January 23, 1966.
In 1973, the Octagon once again outgrew its space and purchased the basement and the first two floors of the "Masonic Building," as it was called, on the corner of 5th Street and Douglas Avenue.
The Octagon board and staff believe that the arts education is fundamental to achieving their public purpose.

Breaking away from the earlier rigid formality of Georgian architecture, the Octagon incorporates a free-flowing, efficient interior with curved spaces such as the circular entrance hall and the dramatic oval staircase.
In the 18th century, round rooms were often constructed with eight angled walls plastered smooth and were called "octagon salons." Another clue is found in period dictionaries, which define an octagon shape as having eight angles rather than eight sides.

But Norris is a man of peace, and he doesn't just haul off and kick someone's ass without dragging the decision out for the first two-thirds of the film.
The Octagon takes a lot of flack for "looking dated," which has never hit me as an especially meaningful criticism.
