Based on hexagonal closest packing of oxygen, with Ti filling half of the octahedral interstitial positions, ABABABAB stacking of octahedra in 'chains' is evident.
The +4 cation are arranged in chains of octahedra, parallel to the c-axis; rutile has a prismatic habit due to the chains parallel to c.

  Uniform Compounds of Uniform Polyhedra
The compound of three octahedra has two types of vertices and so it not vertex-uniform, although it is facially uniform.
A few familiar compounds are both uniform and facially uniform: the 5 cubes, the 5 octahedra, and the compounds of 2, 5, and 10 tetrahedra.
This is a special rigid compound of 20 octahedra, illustrated at left, dual to a special version of the compound of 20 cubes which has pairs of coplanar faces.

In sillimanite, andalusite, and kyanite, chains of Al octahedra are oriented parallel to the crystallographic c-axes, which are initially oriented into the page.
In their chains, the Si tetrahedra and the Al octahedra alternate with each other and are perfectly aligned along one of the crystal axes.
The alignment of the tetrahedra and octahedra contrasts with the arrangements found in the polymorphs kyanite and andalusite.

This data has been combined, and it turns out that the known super-clusters are gathered along lines and at intersecting points which form at least 4 locally identified octahedra, which are joined at their tips in a sort of chrystalline pattern.

 5 Octahedra and Pattern Knot
Some of the images I created while I was exploring the scaling of the Icosahedron and the Dodecahedron reminded me of some of the darwings Lynnclaire had drawn of the Pattern knot having straight edges rather than curved edges.
Maybe if this straight-edged Pattern knot was changed to match up with the Octahedra vertices exactly then it would be a true knot, without the knot edges intersecting each other but rather weaving by each other as a real knot would.
It may be the case that further exploration of these ideas will reveal some connection to the scaling by extending polyhedra edges and the Pattern Knot construction....
