The Head Heeb: A failure of self-correction
I have no interest in defending what the Arabs did during the October 2000 riots, which was inexcusable, and I also recognize that the police action has to be put in its context.
That happens in riot control, particularly when the cops on the ground are distinctively outnumbered, surrounding by screaming mobs baying for their blood, and have no likelihood of substantial reinforcements anytime soon because the same thing is happening across a large piece of the country.
The urban riots in the United States during the 1960s had a political context; the rioters were pissed off by racism, inequality, police brutality, governmental indifference and a whole host of other frustrations.
