Odawara was well-known for its uido (a medicine which every traveler carried), wood inlays, ume boshi, shiokara or salted fish guts, kamboko or boiled fish paste, and, although it didn't apply to tourists, later guns and cannons.

Odawara Castle is the symbol of Odawara city which is 80 km (50 miles) southwest of Tokyo; the train ride took a little less then 70 minutes from NAF Atsugi.
But the main attraction is the Odawara Castle, which is in the center of this historical village.

The shuttle starts at 7:30 am from Odawara Station and leaves the station every hour at 30 past the hour except that there is no pick-up at 12:30pm or 5:30pm, last shuttle to the hotel is at 8:30 pm.
One side of the station has pick-ups for city busses, that is NOT the side where the Hilton shuttle pick-up is. On the side with the statue, the shuttle pick up spot is towards the rear of the pick-up area, such that it is closer to the street rather than the station.
The television in the room doesn't get many stations, perhaps a dozen or so and only CNN is in english, although with the bilingual button on the remote, a few of the japanese channels have some programming in english from time to time, such as the ball game.
