Odudua is patroness of love, and many stories are told of her adventures and amours.
Odudua was once walking alone in the forest when she met a hunter, who was so handsome that the ardent temperament of the goddess at once took fire.

With his white surgical coat and stethoscope, Dr. Frederick Fasehun is the unlikely leader of the Odudua Peoples' Congress, a collection of human rights activists, Yoruba tribal leaders and radicals who want a separate Yoruba state in southwestern Nigeria.
Although the rioting that claimed at least 11 lives in early March has died down, tensions remain high and Fasehun says he is struggling to maintain control over the movement he founded and restrain the militants.

Chapter IV: Remarks on the Foregoing.
The difference between Olorun and Obatala appears to be that the former is the personal divine firmament, and the latter an anthropomorphic sky-god, a later conception; and we perhaps here see a repetition of the process by which in the religion of ancient Greece Kronos supplanted Uranus.
The incompleteness of the scheme seems, as has been said, to show that the myth of Yemaja is comparatively recent, and this is supported by the fact that the myth itself is not universally accepted in its entirety.
Shango, for example, is said by some to be of independent origin, like Ifa; and Odudua, the mother of Yemaja, according to the myth, is by others included in the number of those who sprang from Yemaja's body.

Odudua and Obatalá are in turn the children of Olorun, god of the firmament and all the heavens, and some say the two are one, a single androgynous divinity, the image of a human being, with an arm and a leg and a tail that ends in a sphere.
It is Yemanjá who is revered as mother of the ocean and the rivers and of all things orixá, receiving the petitions of sailors and the fishermen and anyone whose life depends on the sea.
