Australian mallee moths and their relatives
Mallee moths and their close relatives in the family Oecophoridae represent one of the most remarkable evolutionary radiations in the Australian environment because there are so many species.
Several species may sometimes damage pasture crops, some damage damp and rotting wood, and two introduced species of Oecophoridae are sometimes pests of stored produce.

The Caterpillars of this family generally live in shelters made from leaves of their foodplants joined with silk.
The family is often included in OECOPHORIDAE, but there are clear physiological differences between the DEPRESSARIIDAE and the OECOPHORIDAE, so it is here treated separately.
The DEPRESSARIDAE are much commoner in the northern hemisphere than in the Australia, whereas the OECOPHORIDAE are much better represented in Australia.
