  Oerth
Oerth is the name of the fictional planet on which the earliest Dungeons & Dragons setting - that of Greyhawk - takes place.
Oerth has an axis tilt of 30 degrees, which results in larger polar caps[?] and would have caused shorter summers in temperate areas but for wizardly and divine magic shifting weather patterns to be more favorable to the populace (at least the god-fearing folks).
The name Oerth is similar to Aerth, the world of Jack Vance's novels, which in turn is an anagram of Earth.

 A NOTE ON DEMONS
Other sages advance the theory that Oerth is laden with dozens, perhaps even hundreds of permanent magical gates to other worlds and planes, and that these gates lead not only elsewhere, as one might expect, but to _important_ elsewheres.
By all accounts, travel in the outer planes is a complicated, indirect matter, and it could very well be that many higher beings seek to use the world as a sort of departure point to the various worlds on the multiverse, both within and without the five realms generally ascribed to our cosmos.
Lolth is known to have a vested interest in Oerth itself, and has, on at least one occasion, attempted to bring part of the planet into her own layer of the Abyss.

The thing about Oerth is that it's partially medieval, but it also has a very non-Medieval feel to it.
It occurred to me that Oerth could really come to life if it were conceived as being as full of petty, vain, and reaching people as Vance's Dying Earth is--but also full of unusual local customs (cf.

 Vecna - Multiversal Omnipedia
Originally the wizardly ruler of a kingdom in the Flanaess, Vecna's rise to power was supposedly engineered by an entity known as the Serpent (which may have been Asmodeus, and is also said to have influenced much of his later activities).
Vecna left his infamous Eye and Hand of Vecna behind, as well as a host of lesser artifacts from his other body parts, all endowed with a portion of his might (and in the Eye and Hand's cases, a portion of his evil).
The godly presence in Sigil began to put stress on the structure of the multiverse, until a band of adventurers were able to destroy Vecna's body and cause his banishment from the City of Doors.

It is easiest to assume that the Oerth is nearly a perfect sphere, since such an assumption reduces the complexity of future calculations and as Roger stated, it is in keeping with the numerous instances of perfection evident in the planet and its environs.
Assuming Oerth rotates on its own axis as well, the greater gods must be exerting a massive amount of energy in order to prevent it from deforming from a perfect sphere...enough to make the Invoked Devastation look like a campfire by comparison.
