 Of Mice and Men
Steinbecks Roman Of Mice and Men ist ein Klassiker der amerikanischen Literatur; an High Schools gehört er zur Standardlektüre2 und auch an deutschen Schulen gehört er zum Kanon der häufig gelesenen Lektüren im Englischunterricht der Sekundarstufe II.
Bei Of Mice and Men sollte anders verfahren werden: die Lektüre des Romans sollte fester Bestandteil des Unterrichts sein, denn die „Filmvorlage“ ist ohne Zweifel literarisch wertvoll.
Es werden ferner Szenen aus alten Of Mice and Men Verfilmungen (nicht die Sinise-Verfilmung) gezeigt und teilweise mit Steinbecks eigenen Kommentaren zu seinem Stück unterlegt.

GCSE "Of Mice and Men" (Letts Explore) by John Steinbeck
Of Mice And Men the movie had a hell of a lot to live up to, in the shadow of its novel parent.
The movie is about two men who travel together all the time, hoping to own an acre of land and a nice home they can call their own.

Gary Sinise's "Of Mice and Men" was virtually ignored by critics and public when it was first released, and I have never known why.
John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men is brilliantly adapted here and directed by Gary Sinise.
What makes this 1992 adaptation of Steinbeck's classic so great is Sinise's sensitive direction as well as his strong and understated performance, but it's John Malkovich who steals the show in one of his career best performances as the sympathetic Lennie who is trying to survive in a world he was never meant for.

Of Mice and Men: Special Edition (1992)
However, when I examined how many times Mice hit the silver screen, I was surprised to learn that this has only occurred twice to date: the Oscar-nominated 1939 edition, and the 1992 version documented in this review.
Mice also was adapted for TV twice — in 1970 and in 1981 — but we went 53 years between cinematic editions.
This absence of showiness is a good way to depict Of Mice and Men, for the story remains a simple and basic one.

Of Mice and Men is Gary Sinise's (Forrest Gump, Apollo 13) take on the popular Depression-era novel of the same name by John Steinbeck.
On that level, Of Mice and Men does a fine job telling this heart-breaking tale, during a time when people worked so hard for so little, with happiness only a thing in the mind.
Of Mice and Men is a worthy film version of an American classic, and will probably be seen mostly by those who have read the book, whether in school or for their own enjoyment.

Most of the men on the ranch find it a hard, lonely life but at least George and Lennie have the friendship of each other.
But the animosity of Curly, the ranch owner's son, and Lennie's inability to control his own strength, means that the novel ends on a note of sadness when George shoots Lennie to prevent him suffering at the hands of Curly.
This is not a weakness, because the running away from men on horseback with guns and dogs, is the ever present threat in George and Lennie's lives.

A strong argument favours Gary Sinise's 1992 Of Mice and Men over the classic 1939 version that critics have historically preferred.
As adapted by the great playwright-screenwriter Horton Foote, John Steinbeck's Depression-era masterpiece comes alive with timeless simplicity, more candid in language and behaviour, and therefore more honest in its embrace of Steinbeck's beloved pair of lowly dreamers George (Sinise) and his retarded cousin Lennie (John Malkovich).

Comedy Central: Movies - Of Mice and Men - Review
It wasn't until 1992 that Chicago stage actor-director Gary Sinise made his mark in movies: first, with an impressive performance in the sleeper A Midnight Clear; and then as producer, director, and star of an adaptation of John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men.
The latter work was a challenge, in light of the lionized source material as well as the highly regarded 1939 film version starring Burgess Meredith and Lon Chaney Jr..
After Mice, Sinise would become one of America's most prolific, respected character actors in films such as Forrest Gump, Apollo 13, and The Green Mile.
