Off theory - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Off theory is a bowling tactic in the sport of cricket.
Off theory involves concentrating the line of the bowling attack just outside the off stump.
Off theory - although not commonly known by that name now - has become the most common attacking bowling tactic used in cricket.

Leg theory - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Simply put, leg theory involves concentrating the bowling attack at or near the line of leg stump.
Since a leg theory attack means the batsman is more likely to hit the ball on the leg side, additional fielders on that side of the field can be effective in preventing runs and taking catches.
Leg theory can be a moderately successful tactic when used with both fast bowling and spin bowling, particularly leg spin to right-handed batsmen or off spin to left-handed batsmen.

The second theory is the older notion of a generalist/specialist trade-off (e.g., Fox and Morrow 1981, Futuyuma and Moreno 1988).
In contrast, the trade-off theory predicts positive correlations between geographic range and habitat specificity, positive correlations between local abundance and habitat occupancy, and negative correlations between the first group and the second group.
With respect to the ecological groups, the predictions of neither theory were upheld with respect to local abundance and habitat occupancy (Tables 2 and 4).

The language of “theory” may sound baroque at times to foreign ears, but it was just a short-hand to very long ideas.
Theory is all genders and all cultures at the same time.
At the time theory took off in New York, in the early ’80s, a new wave of young artists were coming onto the scene and it became pretty crowded there.

Students (especially at an introductory level) are sometimes put off by theory - wondering why we can not start by examining the "facts" or the "issues." But the problem with jumping to the "facts" or the "issues" is that not every agrees on what the facts are or even what facts are important.
But all empirical theories share in common the fact that they are NOT evaluating policies or governmental action as good or bad; they are simply attempting to understand the reality of what exists.
All of the theories we will examine are really not one theory but a category or type of theories with some important internal debates among sub-theories.

Stepping Off Hard Drugs With Cannabis
The steppingstone theory is usually employed to conceptualize the pathway to hard drugs through cannabis use by teenagers, without taking into account situations where cannabis may play an important function in the pathway away from hard drugs for older users.
The pattern of "keeping off" signifies a specific way of controlling the availability of drugs to youth that blends legality with pseudolegality to create a new environment based on controlled use and self-regulation of both alcohol and cannabis.
In a nationwide evaluation of the effectiveness of community-based drug abuse treatment programs in the United States during the 1970s, the percentage of post treatment marijuana use was shown to increase steadily from 13% in the pretreatment period, growing incrementally to 27% in the fourth year of post treatment (Simpson and Tims, 1981).

While I find this theory enticing, I can't say that there is any way to prove that it is valid and that's why it's just a theory and not a rule to go by.

Electrical Theory | Alternating Current | Direct Current | Basic Electrical Theory Books, Videos and Libraries
Beginning with a review of the methods and techniques of DC theory, this book adds the concepts of capacitance and inductance as they relate to alternating current (AC) theory and features a host of circuit analysis tools that will build on concepts already learned.
Topics are thoughtfully arranged to build knowledge, progressing from basic principles such as the differences between peak, rms, and average values to more complex coverage of circuits containing resistance, inductance, and capacitance.
Knowledge of fundamentals is critical to the success of a modern electrical technician, and this book explores direct current (DC) principles and methods as well as the underlying theories and concepts needed for a strong foundation in electrical technology.

The two branes bounce off each other to give rise to matter and radiation, and then expand and dissipate due to dark energy.
Years ago, Steinhardt played a prominent role in formulating what is now the most widely accepted scientific picture of the universe’s beginnings, known as inflationary Big Bang theory: that a vanishingly small quantum fluctuation gave rise in an instant to an inflated region of space-time, kicking off an expansion that is now picking up speed.
It sounds like the cheesiest form of science fiction, but this scenario — dubbed the “ekpyrotic model,” which plays off the Greek word for “conflagration” — was put forward as the best rival to the mainstream model.

SSRN-A Cross-sectional Test of Pecking Order Hypothesis Against Static Trade-off Theory on UK data by T. Adedeji
It appears from the evidence that only about 20-30% of internal funds flow deficit are financed by new debt issues and that while pecking order hypothesis does not explain new debt issues better than static trade-off theory, the theory explains levels of long term debt ratio much better than the hypothesis.
It is also observed that some of the variables suggested by static trade-off theory, but rejected by pecking order hypothesis as irrelevant to a firm's decision to issue new debt, such as expected growth and size, have significant power to explain new issues of debt.
However, evidence obtained from power tests conducted to determine whether the hypothesis and the theory are capable of giving negative results when they are false is mixed.

A trade-off framework is detailed that can be used to interpret mammal behaviour in complex environments, and may be used to advance the self-medication hypothesis.
• The use of trade-off theory has advanced our understanding of the contact process between grazing mammalian hosts and their parasites transmitted via the faecal-oral route.
Experimental manipulation of the costs and benefits of a nutrient intake vs. parasite risk trade-off has shown that environmental conditions (forage quality and quantity) and the physiological state (parasitic and immune status) of a mammalian host can both affect the behavioural decisions of foraging animals.
