 The 4WD Debate
There are reasons for owning 4WDs and not using them offroad, and these include towing large and heavy trailers, and many people with limited joint flexibility prefer not to have to bend down to get into their vehicle.
It is wrong to assume that everyone with a 4WD that doesn't use it offroad does not have a good reason for their choice of vehicle.
It also reduces vehicle ownership to a purely monetary decision, and if that were the sole, or even primary consideration of public then there would be very few cars available on the market, and all of them basic models.

Though virtually every vehicle on the road has independent suspension for the front wheels, Jeep has relied on a non-independent solid axle, front and rear, for perceived advantages in offroad use.
There was no recall, but to address concerns, Jeep basically lowered the Liberty about an inch by shortening the coil springs and jounce bumpers, a change that occurred in the middle of the 2002 model year.

DaimlerChrysler/Jeep Petition - Jeeps-Offroad.com - Where Has Your Jeep Been Today
The current crop of Jeep vehicles were designed for highway and city street travel, but not for the offroad enthusiast that doesn't concern himself with the creature comforts that common automobiles have.
The Jeep vehicle, in it's earliest form, was developed in the late 1930's by the Willys-Overland Corporation for the United States Army as a replacement for the horse in wartime.
Current models of Jeep vehicles are commonly thought of as "grocery getters" and "soccer mom transports", and the marketing of these vehicles has left many "Jeepers" feeling alienated: a demographic that has been totally forgotten.

Whether you're grilling out with friends and family, out fourwheeling or just relaxing, please take some time to remember what Memorial Day is all about, and honor the men and women of the armed forces who have served their country (all countries) with pride and dedication.
That said, many, if not most vehicles these days have two tie-down points at each end, designed mainly, I believe, to strap them to the deck of container ships for import/export.
With a very light vehicle you might be able to use these hooks, but securing a tire, axle, or other major suspension part makes more sense to me.
