Brusilov Offensive - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
It was a major offensive against the armies of the Central Powers on the Eastern Front, launched on June 4, 1916 and lasting until early August.
The French were still fighting at Verdun, the British faced a German offensive along the Somme and the Italians were under pressure from the Austrian Trentino offensive.
All forces involved were becoming spent and the offensive finally died down in late September and ended as Russian forces had to be transferred to help Romania which entered the war at the time and was being overrun by German forces.

Tet Offensive - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Viewed from a historical distance, the Tet Offensive is also a major example of the value of propaganda and media influence in the pursuit of military objectives, a central tenet of late 20th-century and early 21st-century modern warfare, especially with respect to terrorism.
In the months prior to the Offensive, U.S. and ARVN military intelligence observed signs of a major military buildup: "In October the number of trucks observed heading south on the Ho Chi Minh trail jumped from the previous monthly average of 480 to 1,116."[4] In November this number was 3,823 and in December, 6,315.(op.cit.
The effect of the offensive of U.S. public opinion surprised the NLF and DRVN leaderships, particularly as their strategic aims were restricted to effects on the social situation in Vietnam.

Military Thought: Tactics as the art of offensive
The troops on the offensive deliver blows with all means at their disposal and use the results to swiftly move into the enemy deployment, destroy and capture manpower, machines and equipment, and occupy key objects and areas.
An offensive became more resolute thanks to the massive use of artillery (160 to 180 guns per one kilometer of the frontline); softening-up process; gases; ramming tank thrust; greater aviation involvement to support the land forces on the offensive; infantry attacks behind the moving barrage; a greater role of night action.
Resolute offensive actions, high pace of breakthroughs, pursuit of the retreating enemy, and forcing water obstacles without stopping were made possible by the improved methods of destruction by fire and artillery and offensive actions of aviation.

 Tet Offensive, Vietnam 1968
A major problem faced by NAVFORV intelligence was the inability of Allied naval patrol forces to significantly interdict enemy logistic activity along the rivers and coast of the RVN, with the likely exception of large vessels approaching from the open sea.
COMNAVFORV and his intelligence organization were surprised by the intensity, coordination and timing of the Tet Offensive, as evidenced by Admiral Veth's presence at his residence during the first wave of attacks on Saigon.
Of the many factors that led to the intelligence community's surprise at the offensive, the misguided belief that enemy forces would not run the risk of attacking the cities and towns of the RVN is paramount.

The Easter Offensive of 1972: A Failure
While most areas of South Vietnam encountered NVA ground force activity during the Easter Offensive of 1972, it was the northern-most portion of the country, the Quang Tri Province, which bore the initial and most severe brunt of the NVA's conventional ground campaign.
The offensive began with the 308th NVA Division and the attached 204th Tank Regiment springing from the western Demilitarized Zone (DMZ).
During the 1972 Easter Offensive, the lack of SIGINT collected was, in and of itself, a possible indicator.

Complainants said the advert, which showed a woman in high heels and fl mini skirt arching over and holding her ankles, was offensive because it could be seen by children and "condoned sexual harassment".

Vets With A Mission - History of Vietnam - Tet Offensive
A month after the offensive began, US estimates put the number of civilian dead at some 15,000 and the number of new refugees at anything up to two million and still the battles went on.
Giap's gamble had another side effect When the Tet Offensive began, many US officials believed that the N LF had offered the Americans a golden opportunity by fighting a pitched battle where it could be defeated in open combat.
The northern and southern parts of Vietnam had ancient cultural and social differences and while the communist cadres at the center of the N LF had managed largely to suppress these natural antagonisms, there still were basic differences in goals and approach.
