Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Education (HMIE) in Scotland is an executive agency of the Scottish Executive, responsible for the inspection of public and independent primary and secondary schools, as well as further education colleges, community learning, and teacher education.
HMIE is charged with inspecting the quality of education in pre-school centres, primary schools, secondary schools, special schools, community learning and development, further education colleges, initial teacher education, residential educational provision and the education functions of local authorities and services for children.

As New York States standards kick in, it would be well for everybody involved--educators, and business people who are committed to a better educational system--to remember the voices of these primary customers.

The NDE Special Education Office staff annually reviews special education plans and budgets, final financial reports, transportation applications and claims, updated special education policies and procedures, staff caseloads and variance requests, staff endorsements and licenses, program expansion requests and child count information.
The NDE Special Education Office will distribute in August with the Special Education Plan and Budget mailout a schedule indicating the placement of each district in the Program Standards Review Process for the upcoming school year.
To evaluate the implementation of appropriate standards selected for review, a stratified random sampling of all disability categories, nonpublic students, wards of the state and Level III students (as submitted by school districts on the Special Education Student Information System) will be used to determine student files to be reviewed onsite.

Calderdale was first inspected by the Office for Standards in Education (Ofsted) in January 1997, a few months after the crisis of discipline at The Ridings School.
A follow-up visit by the inspectors took place in June this year and their new report finds that efforts to raise standards are being undermined by an ineffective senior management team.
The chairwoman of Calderdale's education committee, Helen Rivron, admitted that standards in the area's schools had to improve but said the authority was doing well in a number of key areas.
