Administrator of the Government - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In crown colonies, an Officer Administering the Government stands in for a Governor.
Usually, the office of administrator is a temporary appointment, for periods during which the governor is incapacitated, outside the territory, or otherwise unable to perform his/her duties.
The term Administrator is also used for a permanent officer where the status of the territory is not sufficient to warrant the appointment of a governor (e.g.

Federal Government, Excluding the Postal Service
U.S. citizens are particularly aware of the Federal Government when they pay their income taxes each year, but they usually do not consider the government’s role when they watch a weather forecast, purchase fresh and uncontaminated groceries, travel by highway or air, or make a deposit at their bank.
Advancement in the Federal Government is commonly based on a system of occupational pay levels, or “grades.” Workers enter the Federal civil service at the starting grade for an occupation and begin a “career ladder” of promotions until they reach the full-performance grade for that occupation.
Wage and salary employment in the Federal Government is projected to grow by 3 percent through the year 2012, while the salaried economy as a whole is expected to grow by 16 percent.

The Administrator of the Government, often shortened to Administrator, is the title given to a person acting in place any of the Governors-General of Canada, Australia, or New Zealand, or of the Governors or Lieutenant Governors of their states or provinces.
In New Zealand, the line of succession is 'the Chief Justice, followed by the President of the Court of Appeal, and then the Senior Judge of that same court.' For example, in April 2003, when Dame Silvia Cartwright was overseas, Chief Justice Dame Sian Elias was appointed Administrator.
The title Administrator is also held by the ceremonial head of one of the Territories of Australia, and by the chief official of some of the minor overseas territories of the United Kingdom.

Initially, the state maintained its loyalty to Queen Elizabeth II as 'Queen of Rhodesia' (a title to which she never consented) but not to her representative, the Governor Sir Humphrey Gibbs, whose constitutional duties were exercised by an 'Officer Administering the Government', Clifford Dupont.
The Rhodesian government faced a serious economic struggle during the 1970s as a result of sanctions, emigration, and the strain imposed on the economic system by conscription of all white men (and, in the late 1970s, Asian and Coloured (mixed race) men as well).
Bishop Muzorewa's government did not receive international recognition, and the international community recognised that a successful resolution of the war in Rhodesia had to include ZANU and ZAPU, since as a result of their exclusion, armed conflict between these groups and Smith's government continued unabated.
