  Offutt AFB - Strategic Air Command Headquartes
Offutt’s host unit is the 55th Wing, the largest wing within the Air Force’s Air Combat Command.
Offutt's heritage began with the construction of Fort Crook between 1894 and 1896, some 10 miles south of Omaha and two miles west of the Missouri River.
Operations at Offutt included the basing of alert bombers and tankers in the late 1950's and 1960's, support for intercontinental ballistic missile sites in Nebraska and Iowa in the 1960's and worldwide reconnaissance from the mid-1960's to the present.

 FORT CROOK- OFFUTT AFB
The historical significance of Offutt is a source of pride for military and community members alike.

Was station at Offutt from 1976-1980 aasigned with the 2ACCS had a great time meet alot of good guys and got alot of flying in.
I was stationed at Offutt in 1968 and again after a tour in Viet Nam from 1970 till 1976.
I worked on the U-3B in MOD B then the T-29/C-131 with a vrey breif stint on the T-39 before I was forced down the hill to the 55th OMS and the 135 bunch.

Description: I was photographing RC-135's from the 55th wing at Offutt AFB Nebraska.
I was on the west end of the base and photographed a RC-135 "cobra ball" departing off the west end of the runway.

 Offutt AFB - United States Nuclear Forces
No doubt problems at Offutt contributed to the Army’s decision to centralize its construction effort at a location close to the Air Force Ballistic Missile Division in Los Angeles.
NEACP moved from Andrews Air Force Base, near Washington, D.C., to Offutt in 1975 and came under the jurisdiction of SAC as another command post at the installation.
The hangar is sited near the end of Offutt’s 10,000-foot runway, and as such reflects SAC planning similar to that undertaken for its moleholes and alert aprons of the late 1950s.

Second son Marcus was born at Scott AFB on 21 March 1989.
From Guam his final assignment was at McChord AFB, Washington from August 1996 - August 2000 where he was assigned to the 62nd Aerial Port Squadron until his retirement from active duty in Aug 2000.

During an attack on US soil, some leaders would be taken to an underground command post in Virginia while others would go aboard the E-4B to direct American Forces.
Four E-4Bs are assigned to the 1st Airborne Command & Control Squadron, part of the 55th Wing at Offutt AFB, Nebraska.
The practice of keeping a detachment with one E-4B on alert at Andrews AFB, Maryland, a short helicopter trip away from the White House, was discontinued in the late 1980s.

The 1st Airborne Command & Control Squadron was activated as 1st ACCS on 1 July 1969, when it was assigned to the 1st Composite Wing, located at Andrews AFB, MD. On 1 November 1975 it was assigned to the 55th Strategic Reconnaissance Wing, Offutt AFB but remained at Andrews AFB.
Since 1 September 1991 the squadron is assigned to the 55th Operations Group of the 55th Wing, Offutt AFB.
Although the aircraft were relocated to Offutt in 1977, one aircraft always remained at Andrews AFB on TDY.

In 1959 thru 1961 I was a dittybopper with the 6981st RGM at Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage, Alaska.
I was a member of the USAFSS from 1958 to 1962, with the 6903th RSM at Whellus in Libya and the 6925th at Clark AFB in the PI.
As an AIA (the current USAFSS) flyer stationed at Offutt AFB at the 97th IS (6949 ESS) and previously Ft Meade at the 94 IS (6994 ESS) I think this is a wonderful idea that you guys have done here.
