Ogden City is located at the confluence of the Ogden and the Weber rivers in Weber County in northern Utah.
Ogden claims to be the oldest settlement in Utah because of the founding in 1845 of a small picket enclosure, Fort Buenaventura, on the Weber River by Miles Goodyear, a mountain man working in the northern Utah area.
Ogden business leaders, realizing that Ogden was closely linked to government industries and thus suffered economic ups and downs because of changes in political ideas, devoted considerable effort to bring more private industry to the Ogden area.

Today the Ogden City water system is supplied by six wells in the upper valley, which supplies most of the city's drinking water, a water treatment plant at Pineview and Wheeler Creek, and supplemental water supplied by the Weber Basin Water Conservancy District.

 Ogden River Project
The Ogden River Project, in north-central Utah near Ogden and Brigham City, furnishes an irrigation supply to almost 25,000 acres of land lying between the Wasatch Mountains and the Great Salt Lake, and a supplemental municipal water supply for the city of Ogden.
The artesian wells owned by Ogden City were capped and abandoned.  The city drilled new wells on the point between middle inlet and north fork.  They are now housed in concrete block buildings and flow along the north side of the dam to the treatment plant.
Water for the South Ogden Highline Canal is conveyed across the canyon in a 360 foot long, 36 inch diameter steel siphon suspended from the canyon wall.
