As I have detailed elsewhere on the site, much of the defending force on Chameleon V was made up of the brigades of Ogryns who had been sent to the Planet when it was colonised as a training outpost.
Boneheads are the Ogryns which have had their intelligence enhanced by the skilled surgeons of the Adepts Medical Corps up to the standard of an average Human.
He organised the training of the Ogryns in the use of specific weapons - teaching groups in the art of hand to hand and others at the use of the new ranged weapons.

On Ogryns, I really do think the roughriders are better, its just that getting them in a usable quantity is difficult because they dont come in a boxed set, and the only models for them are from the 90s I think.
An ogryn unit will likely be about 5, and represnt about 15 I3 S6 attacks when they charge, for a bit more points, about 125, and without fleet, and cavalry rules, and no power weapons, they just don't compare at all.
Until Ogryns get some help out, to have say, the choppa rule, and close combat weapons, and or a power glove/weapon leeder, they really are only worth painting if you like the theme, or you want S6, for some reason, like you always play Eldar.

An Ogryn is a human, (OK, an abhuman) they're hideously strong yes, for a human, They're subject to certain limits, the strength of a bone based around calcium for example.
while massive stength is enough vs orcs and men remember the ogryn would flail and cause glancing hits onto the tough (and smooth) power armour of the marines, a marine would strike quickly at vital parts, snapping a huge neck, or pulping a heart.
Ogryns may be big, but they are unenhanced humans underneath it all.

That would make Ogryns really good at sitting back and firing with the rest of the gunline and with their heavy CC weapons they'd be pretty good at counter assualt too.
Ogryns don't need to be a general purpose choice, perhaps they need to fit in specific places in various tactical doctrines, such as Jungle and City fighting

The use of Ogryns from the Krourk Auxilia is always heavily controlled, for they are a brutal race that can prove to be just as dangerous to their allies as to any enemy of the Imperium.
They are sent to Imperial Guard regiments in single squads and between battles the Ogryns are often kept heavily sedated, which does little to improve their already volatile temperament when they are finally unleashed in combat.

Ogryn are only T4 with a 5+ save, so they will take a lot of damage if hit hard by anything that causes damage -- like virtually any enemy assault unit in the 40K universe.
They were simply great speed bumps or if they managed to hit a non-assault unit like devastators, it was always funny to see the marines lose a 250 points squad to 120 points pf Ogryn.
If your Ogryn are on foot, your opponents can avoid them fairly easily because their movement rate is fairly modest.

The Technomagi and Geneticists of the Adeptus Mechanicus have increased the Imperial Ogryns intellect so that they can at least obey orders and use some technological weapons; something that would be impossible for their much bigger cousins.
With this increase in intellect Imperial Ogryns are somewhat smaller than normal creatures of their type but are still very big.

21st Aug 06 9:13 PM Ogryns seem fine as is. I wouldn't expect their armor to be any higher (or as high as it is now) for a bunch of guys in T shirts with shoulder pads.
ogryn could probably do with a HP buff of sorts....but with a priest their a pretty good melee unit.
Ogryns don't have much armor so its up to there pain tolerance to take bullets.
