  hello
Ohio thus becomes the first state to mandate that students learn not only scientific evidence that supports Darwin's theory but also scientific evidence critical of it.
Ohio is not the only place where public officials are broadening the curriculum to include scientific criticisms of evolution.
In Ohio critics of Darwinism were compared to the Taliban, and Ohioans were warned that the effort to allow students to learn about scientific criticisms of Darwin was part of a vast conspiracy to impose nothing less than a theocracy.

Ohio's Scientific Research Attractiveness to Scholars in Jeopardy
Columbus, Ohio (January 31, 2005) – Dr. Max Funk, a chemistry professor at the University of Toledo, and other OhioLINK users, are speaking out about the real impact to the quality of research and higher education statewide if OhioLINK funding is inadequate in the next combined operating and capital budgets as anticipated.
For more than a decade the Ohio Library and Information Network has been the world-wide model for creating a highly efficient collaborative higher education library system that stimulates scientific and medical research, improves health care with access to the latest medical research, and attracts high quality faculty and students.
State support of Ohio higher education will most likely decline in the upcoming state capital budget and is unlikely to increase in the next operating budget.

Pamela R. Winnick on Evolution Debate on National Review Online
Proponents of intelligent design agree with the scientific establishment that students should be taught evolution, but they think students should be made aware there is some controversy over the theory.
Ohio is hardly alone in its "teach the controversy" approach.
The board received 20,000 letters urging that multiple theories be taught and, in a packed room on the day of the vote, the overwhelming majority of public speakers urged the board to be open to theories that challenge Darwinian evolution.

 Ohio ID v. Science Controversy
Ohio scientists are angry that a proposed lesson for the state's new science curriculum calls for high-school students to debate evolution.
Ohio attracted international attention in 2002 when the state board debated whether science standards should include "intelligent design," the concept that certain life forms are too complex to be explained by evolution and that some unknown intelligence must have been involved.
Ohio Board of Education member Deborah Owens-Fink of Akron says the over-reaction to even a modest challenge to evolution has been "very disturbing.'' Most of the acrimony comes from what she calls "the whiny scientists'' who oppose even a protozoa of intelligent design.

Report on Proposed Modifications to Draft of Ohio Science Academic Content Standards Tenth Grade Life Sciences Section
As you would think it ludicrous and scientifically flawed for me to insist science be taught using only the Bible as a textbook, I believe it is the same for you to disregard scientific (including mathmatical probability) truths that seem to conflict with a pet theory (evolution).
The children of Ohio should be able to learn the evidence for design as well as evidence for (macro)evolution instead of being forced to assume that the THEORY of macroevolution is scientific fact.
Ohio's education elite seem to be leaning toward teaching evolution as an already established fact, instead of the theory it is, whether they admit it or not.
