The Ohio Turnpike (officially the James W. Shocknessy Ohio Turnpike) is a -long, limited-access toll highway in the U.S. state of Ohio, serving as a primary corridor to Chicago and Pittsburgh.
The Ohio Turnpike Commission envisions the eventual demolition of these service plazas, and construction of new plazas between mile markers 20 and 49; the new facility will most likely be located in Fulton County.
Since the turnpike opened, the Ohio Turnpike Commission has contracted with the Ohio State Highway Patrol (District 10) to provide law enforcement, as well as assistance to disabled or stranded motorists.

In both a moral and a monetary victory for UE Local 791/UTW members, an arbitrator ruled last month that the Ohio Turnpike commission was wrong in charging a maintenance worker with "unavailability for overtime" and found that he must be compensated for overtime he should have been allowed to work.
She rejected the Commission’s claim that this case was "not arbitrable," writing that the union followed all of the contract procedures and met all of the time limits for processing a grievance for arbitration.
Ohio Turnpike maintenance workers are expected to be available for overtime on a rotating basis.

Last update: June 14, 2006 – 1:55 PM WALBRIDGE, Ohio — A tour bus crashed into a concrete barrier on the Ohio Turnpike Wednesday, injuring nine people, the State Highway Patrol said.
One person was taken to a Toledo hospital by helicopter and others were either transported to hospitals by ambulances or treated at the scene, just east of Toledo, according to authorities.
The accident tore apart one side of the bus and briefly closed the turnpike, but none of the injuries appeared to be life threatening, the patrol said.

 Trucking News - Truck speeds boosted on Ohio Turnpike
Starting today, truckers on the Ohio Turnpike have the OK to increase the speed to 65 mph, the same as all other vehicles.
At the urging of Gov. Bob Taft, the Ohio Turnpike Commission voted unanimously Aug. 23 to increase the speed limit for large trucks from 55 mph in hopes of getting truck drivers off overloaded two-lane roads and back onto the toll road.
The commission also approved cutting the turnpike’s share of diesel sale revenue to enable fuel stops along the route to offer diesel up to 11 cents a gallon cheaper than nearby stations, Lauren Dehrmann, turnpike spokeswoman, said.
