 Letter to the Editor
As Director of the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction (DRC), I was perplexed by the recent Columbus Post editorial written by Senator Ben Espy (April 15, 1999) alleging that DRC is a spendthrift agency.
First, the study indicates that Ohio is 6th "in growth" in per capita spending for the entire criminal justice budget that includes police, the courts, jails, prisons, parole and much more--not just the prison system.
Ohio's per capital spending for criminal justice is significantly lower at $334.20.
