Oil - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Oil is a generic term for a chemical compound that is not miscible with water, and is in its liquid state at common ambient temperatures.
Oils are composed of one or several liquid hydrocarbon compounds.
Many oils have higher boiling points than water and lower electrical conductivity, allowing them to be used for liquid cooling systems, especially where electricity is used.

Metal Basinal Brines and Petroleum-Metal Partitioning Between Rock, Oil, Water, and Gas
The experiments will answer the primary questions of whether or not and to what extent metals are partitioned into expelled oil, coexisting liquid water, and a vapor phase.
The expelled oil could, itself, be an ore fluid that concentrates its metals when, as commonly happens, it is oxidized and washed rather than collected in an oil trap or when it is further heated and converted to volatiles.
If metals are concentrated in the water phase, that fluid is a probable source of metals that could be deposited elsewhere in the oil generating basin after the oil and water are expelled from the source rock and possibly separated during secondary migration of the oil.

TERI -  the first to register rapeseed mustard quality lines in India
The oil from these quality strains would be nutritionally superior to that of the rapeseed-mustard being currently produced in India and the resultant oil meal would attract nearly 1.7 times the price commanded in the international market by existing high-glucosinolate varieties.
Consequently, despite high production, the Indian rapeseed mustard varieties have limited export market as they do not match up to the requisite international standards, namely "Canola" quality, which must have less than 2% erucic acid in the seed oil and less than 30 micromoles of glucosinolate for every gram of oil free cake.
When compared to other edible oils, the rapeseed mustard oil has the lowest amount of harmful saturated fatty acids.

Guide to Coconut Oil, benefits of virgin coconut oil for hypothyroid, diabetes and Crohn's disease.
We generally think of oil as being liquid and since the liquid-solid transition temperature of coconut oil is approximately 76°F, it is often solid at room temperature and is therefore frequently referred to as coconut butter (since we think of butter as being solid at room temperature).
In this process, fresh coconut meat is grated and pressed to produce a coconut milk which is a mixture of oil, water, proteins, etc. This mixture is allowed to ferment for approximately 48 hours which causes the solids and water content to separate from the oil.
I learned that coconut oil is not only a good alternative to other fats and oils for cooking and baking (the object of my original search) but is arguably the best oil of all from a health standpoint (see note at bottom of this page).

 Whale Oil Myth
The whale oil myth is now being retold simply as an example of how over-exploitation of resources will lead to a decline in supply, and this strikes me rather like someone who forgot the punch line to what was originally a bad joke anyway.
Although it is true that whale oil became more expensive in the 1840s and 50s, there were already many fuels on the market before whale oil and every sizeable town had a store devoted to a variety of lamps and lamp fuels.
According to the myth, whale oil became expensive when whales became scarce, and this in turn brought on the development of kerosene.
