		Project boundaries are the Okanogan River to the East, a series of foothills on the West, the town of Okanogan on the Southwestern extremity, and the town of Riverside on the north edge.
		In 1886, the lands west of the Okanogan River were detached from the Colville Indian Reservation and advertised in the East for settlement.
		In the mid-1910s, the county's three main towns, Okanogan, Omak and Riverside, with populations of 800, 400 and 500 respectively, began to benefit because of the developing agricultural activity.

		First fur trading post at the mouth of the Okanogan River was a 16-by-20-foot cabin built of driftwood by a small party from John Astor's Pacific Fur Company in the fall of 1811.
		The next non-Indian people of record to enter Okanogan County were these same Astorians who left behind at The Dalles by Thompson, laboriously worked their way up the Columbia to the mouth of the Okanogan River.

	Golfing in Okanogan Country
		Four of the venues are in an area about 40 miles square: Bear Creek in Winthrop, Okanogan Valley near Omak, Lake Woods in the Bridgeport area, and Alta Lake, at the confluence of the Methow and Columbia Rivers.

		Omak Creek is a third order tributary of the Okanogan River with a drainage area of over 140 square miles.
		Because the on-site flood damage posed both a high sediment source and a physical danger, the project was implemented on an expedited schedule to allow construction prior to the next high-flow runoff cycle.
