Kay Starr - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Most of her songs have jazz influences, and, like Frankie Laine and Johnnie Ray, are sung in a style that sound decidedly close to the rock and roll songs that follow.
Since she was junior to all these other artists, every song she wanted to sing got offered to all the others, untill finally he put out a list of old songs from earlier in the century, which nobody else wanted to record.
She sang pop and "hillbilly" songs with a piano accompaniment.

 Oklahoma
The dynamics of the song are widely variant and builds constantly throughout the tune until it melts into the best "Stairway Tease" that I've heard yet.
This song seemed to cook even though is it very down tempo and very "Doors-ian" in its construction.
Walking Into Clarksdale: This is my favorite song on the new album.

Amazon.com: Music: Oklahoma! (Original 1943 Broadway Cast) [CAST RECORDING] [ORIGINAL RECORDING REMASTERED] [CAST RECORDING]
In many ways Oklahoma is one of my favorite cast albums-i love the light melodic music of most of the songs and honestly feel that this is one of Hammerstein's best efforts as a lyricist.
Oklahoma is without doubt one of the landmarks of the Broadway stage and deserves its place as one of the greatest American musicals.
Oklahoma set many "firsts" in the musical theatre, and the original cast album was one of them.

 FightsongsI.txt
The title song of the revolutionary musical was adopted by the State of Oklahoma as its official song and anthem on May 6th, 1953.
The first line of the song is similar to the "Rock-Chalk Jayhawk" chant of Kansas and the last line has become a popular slogan for the university.
To create the musical Oklahoma!, Rodgers and Hammerstein added lyrics, music and dance to a play written by Lynn Riggs, who was a native of Claremore, Oklahoma and an O.U. graduate.

(The musical takes place in 1907 in the territory of Oklahoma, just before it becomes a state.) Ask students whether they think the lyrics of the song(s) were written intentionally in a way to reflect the time and setting of the story.
Discuss the theme of the song: Curly is trying to impress his girlfriend with his new buggy.

 The Power of Kiowa Song
Several Round Dance songs have English lyrics, but are usually sung as "songs without words." Singers often sing the English lyrics during the Oklahoma Two-Step, a dance for partners.
According to Billy Evans Horse, this song was originally sung to honor the death of the buffalo and its sacrifice to the Kiowa people.
The very same songs are often sung in the Gourd Dance throughout the rest of the year.

Amazon.com: Music: Oklahoma! (1955 Film Soundtrack) [SOUNDTRACK]
This song adds dimension to "Oklahoma" by transforming Judd from a villain into a sad and troubled man. When performed well it is an absolutely gorgeous piece of music.
This recording deserves 4 stars for the songs that are here, and five stars without the annoying added bits, but I'm giving it 3 for the song that isn't here - "Lonely Room".
"Lonely Room" is my favorite song from the show and I can't understand why it was left out of the movie and thereby this recording.
