An attendance officer is appointed by the Mississippi Department of Education to investigate all cases of nonattendance and unlawful absences by compulsory-school-age children.
However, those children whose parent(s) or legal guardian(s) are instructional personnel or certified employees of the Oktibbeha County School District may, at such employee's discretion, enroll and attend the school or schools of their parent's or legal guardian's employment regardless of the residence of the child.
All students seeking to transfer in the Oktibbeha County School District from a private school or home instructional program within or outside of the State of Mississippi may be required to take a test to determine the grade and class to which the student shall be assigned at the time of transfer.

 Oktibbeha County, Mississippi - List Information
Oktibbeha, in the Choctaw language, means "icy water." It has been estimated that in 1820 there were between 1,000 and 1,500 Choctaws living within the county's present day boundaries in some five or six settlements.
The first public thoroughfare in the county was the Robinson Road, built in the early 1820's with both federal and state funds.
Oktibbeha County was formally organized on December 23, 1833, with the first court meeting at Hebron the following year.

 Cobb Institute Research Activites
During the summer of 2005, Cobb Institute researchers S. Homes Hogue and Jeffrey Alvey were involved in burial recovery at an unmarked African-American cemetery in Lowndes County, Mississippi that dates from the late nineteenth century to 1956.
In February 1997 Janet Rafferty and S. Homes Hogue, on a contract with the Mississippi Department of Transportation, began work as co-principal investigators on a project of test excavations at three sites (22Ok902, 22Ok904, and 22Ok905) in Oktibbeha County that were scheduled to be destroyed by construction of the Highway 82 bypass north of Starkville.
The Mississippi Department of Transportation has contracted with Mississippi State University to produce a book that will be an overview of existing archaeological knowledge for the part of the highway corridor running through the state.

The Oktibbeha series consists of very deep, moderately well drained, very slowly permeable soils that formed in clayey sediments overlying chalk or calcareous clays.
GEOGRAPHIC SETTING: Oktibbeha soils are on ridges and side slopes on uplands of the Alabama and Mississippi Blackland Prairie (MLRA 135A) and the Southern Coastal Plain (MLRA 133A and 133B) MLRA's.
Keiffer and Sumter soils are on similar positions as Oktibbeha soils and are fine-silty and calcareous to the surface.

Archaeological targets may include fired structures, such as kilns or hearths, and structures with an enhanced magnetic susceptibility such as pits, ditches, enclosures, etc. Nearer to the mound itself, evidence for prehistoric, rectangular structures was provided by the magnetic gradiometer survey.
The gradiometer survey was conducted by Dr. Jay Johnson and students from the University of Mississippi.
