Ol Chiki script - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Ol Chiki script, also known as Ol Cemet’ ("language of writing"), Ol Ciki, Ol (and sometimes as the Santali alphabet, was created in 1925 by Pandit Raghunath Murmu for the Santali language.
Unlike most Indic scripts, which are derived from Brahmi (and possibly originally from the Phoenician abjad, like the Latin alphabet), Ol Chiki is a true alphabet, not an abugida, with vowels given equal representation with consonants.
Ol Chiki has 30 letters, the forms of which are intended to evoke natural shapes.

A distinct script was required to accommodate the Santali language, combining features of both the Indic and Roman scripts.
The modern Ol Chiki script was devised by Pandit Raghunath Murmu in 1925.

The Ol Chiki letters are arranged in a matrix of 6 by 5, in which the six letters in the first column of the matrix are vowels, and the rest 24 letters are consonants.
The selection of shapes for Ol Chiki letters is directly based on the shapes of objects or actions which the sounds for the letters represent, or with which the sounds for the letters are in some way associated.

A few Santhals have demanded that the West Bengal government should implement the Ol Chiki in the education curriculum of West Bengal as a means of self-affirmation and cultural identity for the Santhals.
They strongly feel that the Ol Chiki script will never be able to attain a status in terms of utility and convenience in achieving the success of education and integrity of the Santhals, neither in West Bengal nor at the national and international level.
They also feel that to insist on the Ol Chiki script for Santhali literature will be a disaster for the whole Santhal community, since it is still in its rudimentary form to become a medium of education and knowledge to all the Santhals in India and outside.

Normal convention regarding any script is that a language often uses the same single and specific script to render itself in the visual medium wherever it is spoken.
Whenever an unwritten language was to be given a script, the Devanagari script was sought to be the first choice.
If this was not acceptable or possible, the script of the dominant regional language of the state or union territory where the unwritten language was spoken, would be recommended.

The distinction between standard Greek and the epichoric alphabets is not one of "script" as that term is defined in ISO 15924.
Epichoric alphabets, on the other hand, differ in orthography rather than in script: they use different conventions for assigning sounds to Greek letters, and in some cases use additional letters, just as is the case for English, German, and Icelandic, all of which share the Latin script.

I am not sure what the rules are about talking about the meeting before the minutes are published (and the UTC in plenary can always not accept a script subcommittee meeting, just as anyone can reconsider a decision at the moment of truth) but I thought I'd give a quick smattering of topics....
