Andrew P. MacLeod - "The Ancestry of Leod"
The earliest known historical records pertaining to the MacLeods are two royal charters of King David II (reigned 1329-1371), one to Malcolm son of Tormod MacLeod for two parts of Glenelg and the other to Torcall MacLeod for the four penny land of Assynt, both of which are thought to date to c.
The earliest evidence yet known for the belief that the MacLeods descend from Olaf the Black belongs to the time of Iain Mor MacLeod of Dunvegan (Chief 1626-1649), who is styled “John McOlaus of Dunvegane” in a document dated at Edinburgh, 11th August, 1630”,[9] the “McOlaus” representing “MacOlaf”.
Alick Morrison bravely tried to retain the Olaf the Black ancestry by claiming that the names Olvir and Olaf were effectively the same name,[35] but this is merely a repetition of the seventeenth century error that caused the problem in the first place.

The Kings of the Isle of Man
Possibility 2: In the process of copying the pedigree, a "Harald" was accidently omitted between Ivar and Olaf Cuaran, so that the pedigree should read Godred son of Harald the Black son of Ivar son of Harald son of Olaf [Cuaran].
Strengths: Olaf Cuaran had a son named Harald, who in turn had a son named Ivar, both known from the Irish annals, so the agreement with the Irish annals would be excellent.
Possibility 4: The pedigree in ABT is wrong, and Godred was not a descendant of Olaf Cuaran, but was instead descended somehow from the kings of the Isles who ruled in the late tenth and early eleventh centuries.

From that poem we learn that Æthelstan and his brother Edmund won a victory at Brunanburh (unidentified), against Constantine of Scotland and Olaf, that they slew five young kings and seven of Olaf's earls, and a numberless host of seamen and Scots.
The Olaf who was defeated at Brunanburh was not the Olaf Cuaran (son of Sihtric) whom Guthfrith came to York to support in 927, but Guthfrith's own son, somewhat confusingly also called Olaf.
This Olaf Guthfrithsson became king of Dublin in 934, when his father died, and so appropriately is driven back to Dublin at battle's end (see Stenton, pp.342-3).

Hamlet_(legend) Information, Facts, Resources   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-19)
The slayer of Niall Glundubh is by other authorities stated to have been Sihtric.
Sihtric was the father of that Olaf Cuaran (also known as Anlaf) who was the prototype of the English Havelok, but nowhere else does he receive the nickname of Amhlaide.
If Amhlaide may really be identified with Sihtric, who first went to Dublin in 888, the relations between the tales of Havelok and Hamlet are readily explicable, since nothing was more likely than that the exploits of father and son should be confounded.

 Trish McGettrick - Actress
The traditional family name McGettrick (Sitric) originated in Ireland from two very colorful characters: the Norse King Olaf Cuaran Sitricsson, King of Dublin - 0981 and Gormlaith (Gormflaeth), daughter of Kerbell, King of Leinster - 1030.
Gormlaith was queen of the Danes in Ireland as wife of Olaf (Amleibh) Cuaran; then wife of Malachy II, King of north Ireland ; then wife of Brian Boru, king of Munster and later king of all Ireland.
Her three sons, Sitric (Sitric_II OLAFSSON, King of Dublin — 1042) Murdach and Doncadh O'Brian continued to rule in Ireland after The Battle of Clontarf where Brian Boru died in 1014.
