His use of rural dialect contributed to the growth of Nynorsk as a literary language.
His nephew Kjell Aukrust was an author and artist.

The highlight of the outstanding ice speed skating career of Norway's Johann Olav Koss came on Feb. 20, 1994, when he won the stamina-sapping 10,000-m race in the Winter Olympics at Hamar, Norway.
Along with Knut Hamsun and Sigrid Undset, novelist Olav Duun was one of the outstanding names in 20th-century Norwegian fiction.
