		There is some public concern about the growth of groups perceived to be "sects" and the influence of nonmainstream religious groups, especially in the wake of press reports of the deaths of a few young persons in circumstances suggesting cult activity.

		In 2003, a grant was made from Interface's Ho`okupu Trust in the amount of $25,080 to provide the necessary native plants to begin restoration work in a 231-acre dry land forest restoration project on land owned by the Department of Hawaiian Homelands, on the southern side of Haleakala.
		The project represents a partnership of seven federal, county and private stakeholders, and is being coordinated by Art Medeiros, one of Hawai`i's top experts in forest restoration.
