The Old 96 Chapter of the S.C.G.S. does not incorporate all of the Old 96 District.
The Old 96 Chapter covers the area of Greenwood, Abbeville and part of Edgefield and McCormick Counties.
The old records remain in the parent counties, but of course the cemeteries remain where they were.

The birth of son Alexander in 1793 was in SC but we do not know if this was in Abbeville District or not.
One piece of primary evidence that connects Robert to wife Margaret in South Carolina is that in the Estate of Adam McDonald (McDon(n)ell), Abbeville District SC, report of estate sale held 8 December 1807, Margaret McMichael bought a 25 bushel lot of corn and two barrels.
Note that there are no McMichaels in the 1779 state census of the Old 96 District (Abbeville District was formed from the Old 96 in 1785) so they probably arrived after that.

In the late 1980's several trips were made to the area looking for the old church, which had been referenced in two history books of that area.
