The line crosses Station Road from Nether Broughton to Old Dalby at bridge number 48, the public road having to be lowered to accommodate the railway, which has resulted in flooding from time to time.
Old Dalby village was originally called Wold Dalby to distinguish it from other Dalbys in the region.
Old trade directories describe Old Dalby as "a beautifully placed village in a fold of land below a steep escarpment of the Wolds", while another description said Old Dalby was "the most beautifully placed village in Leicestershire".

The old red route is far less technical than the new route.
As far as I know you are still allowed to ride the old route, and other bits of trail you can find.
The markings for the old route are red roundels on wooden poles, not to be confused with the taller, more obvious new markers for the new trails.

A great deal of testing was carried out at Old Dalby in connection with the APT development programme using various vehicles including the open frame units known as POP train.
This commenced running at Old Dalby in the Autumn of 1971, although APT-E itself did not start running at the test track until September 1973 as it was 'fled' by the driver's union ASLEF for 12 months after its first run on the main line to Duffield.

After the completion of preliminary testing at the test track the unit was loco-hauled to Old Oak Common depot but, due to further delays in obtaining the Testing Safety Case, running did not commence until December 2000.

 Train Control System tests
Following the upgrade of the Old Dalby test track under Alstom which included the doubling of the line from Old Dalby to Stanton, trials related to the new European Train Control System (ETCS) took place, with the two former class 309 Clacton units.
The next phase of development at Old Dalby was to have tested the technology and equipment aspects of the Level 2 "no lineside signals" variant of the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) recommended by the April 2002 expert team report, endorsed by the Health and Safety Commission in 2003.
The Class 309 units were withdrawn and scrapped at Shoeburyness in early 2005 and since the demise of Alstom it has been announced that the test track will close at the end of 2006.
