The DVD was a birthday present to remind me of when I was young and vibrant instead of older and less vibrant and whilst I have a DVD player on my PC its not quite the same as watching it on a proper screen with a half decent sound system.
Nevertheless the DVD of the Old Grey Whistle test is absolutely superb, an excellent summary of one what surely must be the best TV music show ever.

For better and for worse, The Old Grey Whistle Test was probably the most resolutely serious music programme ever broadcast on television.
What OGWT couldn't do, it seems, was to attract many of the big UK groups of the day to join them in the studio.
I watched the OGWT in the 70s and this dvd has the same feel of a show done on a shoestring with eveyone putting as much into each performance as possible.

In some ways The Old Grey Whistle Test Volume 2 is more interesting than its predecessor, as it covers the show's enjoyably uncomfortable period of transition from beard-rock to punk/new wave.
On the DVD: The Old Grey Whistle Test 2 comes on only one disc (the first was a two-disc set), but you still get 30 or so excellent tracks plus all the trimmings, so that's hardly a fault.
I think the trouble with the whistle test production team is that they're far too nice and want to please all the people all of the time.
