  Old Money New Insurance Tricks
Insurance company actuaries justify old money/new money interest crediting by arguing that the interest rate paid on an investment should be tied to the investments purchased at the time the money comes in.
The interest crediting histories of most insurance products show that old money rates are lower than the new money rates, that the old money rates tend to go lower over time, and that they often go to the minimum guaranteed rate in the contract.
Worse, the full effect of old money/new money interest crediting is felt as one approaches retirement age, when the bulk of the investment is now earning the old money rate, and it is too late to fix the mistake.

Old Money: The Mythology Of Wealth in America is a witty and provocative look at the culture of the American upper class and the values and meanings of inherited wealth.
Old Money examines how and why the values nurtured by the inheritors of wealth differ from those of the marketplace and the self-made man, and shows how these differing attitudes toward money affect the lives of individuals and the face of society.
Old Money is a fascinating window into the psyche of a class that only those born to it have heretofore truly understood it.

The Old Soft Money Ain't What It Used to Be
Back in the old days - say, the mid-1990s - there was one simple definition of soft money: contributions made to the national parties for "party-building" activities that were exempt from the limits and restrictions of normal contributions.
In the 2000 elections, soft money contributions accounted for 35 percent of all the money raised by the Republican Party and 47 percent of the money raised by the Democrats.
In contrast, regular "hard money" contributions are limited to $1,000 per election to candidates and $20,000 per calendar year to political parties.

"Old Money" lacks Ferdinand Lundberg's statistically-fuelled rantings, and stops a bit short of fellow outsider Veblen's ironic savaging of the cultural degeneracies of endemic privilege.
Unless you come from old money, you can not understand it, and to be closed in your mind process while reading this book, thinking that the author is "pompous" or "pathetic" concretes my understanding of the average American; ignorant, closed minded and uneducated.
Aldrich claims that part of Old Money's noblesse oblige is to uphold the standards of culture, and one wonders if he's consciously trying to do that by elevating his audience's reading level.

"Old Money" is the 17th episode of the second season of The Simpsons.
Grampa is saddened, attends her funeral and is very angry with Homer, as Homer was responsible for pulling Grampa away from Bea's birthday party and he was unable to spend time with her in what turned out to be her final hours.
First, he looks at buying things for himself, until Bea's ghost suggests that he give the money (his inheritance is now $100,000, because he spent $6,000 on a fez that Napoleon supposedly once wore) to worthy causes.
