The buildings at Oscott, intended for the bishop's residence, were accepted for the projected institution by agreement with Bishop Thomas Talbot, Vicar Apostolic of the Midland District.
Oscott (anciently Auscot) is a hamlet in the Perry Barr township, in the parish of Handsworth, about four miles north of Birmingham, and at the extreme south of Staffordshire.
Among the numerous treasures of ecclesiastical art may be mentioned the collection of embroidery of the fifteenth, sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, the silver-gilt monstrance by an Antwerp artist of 1547, valued at 2,000 pounds, and the massive bronze lectern (early sixteenth century) from St. Peter's Louvain, which is an artistic achievement of the highest excellence.

Under his rule Oscott made noteworthy progress, and the present college edifice, two miles from the old, was erected (1826-38).
He was then "in the desert" (head of the preparatory school at Old Oscott, 1841-3, rector at Leamington, 1843-8), until Bishop Ullathorne came to the Central District (August, 1848).
Weedall was at once appointed vicar-general, dean of the cathedral church, and temporal administrator of the district and the two colleges; in 1852 he became the first provost of the newly erected Birmingham Chapter.

A claim for a Roman camp south of Old Ford cannot be made good, but the old name of Roman Field north of Old Oscott perhaps indicates finds of pottery, etc. The de Pirie family were in possession in the C12th.

Plans to install two underground bottle banks in Oscott have been put on hold after contractors discovered water and cables after digging holes.
The idea for building two new bottle banks on the Old Oscott Hill-Old Oscott Lane and Bandy Wood-Brockwell Road junctions came after complaints from residents about skips often being full and bags being dumped nearby as a result.
People were also reluctant to have more skips put in by their homes because they are deemed unsightly.
