Caught a preview showing last night, and I'm a little surprised myself to report that the aptly named Old School is actually a welcome return to a formula all but abandoned by Hollywood for much of the past couple of decades - that of the unapologetic, raucous, cheap laughs for cheap-laughs sake, male-bonding fraternity picture.
For the group of guys that assemble to start the fraternity that is the heart of Old School are all in their early to mid thirties.
Old School is intentionally sophomoric (all the more so, as it is director Todd Phillips' second big studio comedy).

Old School Movie Review at Hollywood Video
Made by the same team that foisted Road Trip onto the world, this film is simply a blend of that movie, Animal House, the Revenge of the Nerds flicks, and every other campus comedy made over the last 25 years — a limp, half-baked comedy that's long on vulgarity and short on laughs.
Setting the movie in motion is Mitch (Luke Wilson, Owen's blander brother), an uptight 30-year-old lawyer who finds himself suddenly single when he discovers his girlfriend (Juliette Lewis) in flagrante delicto — with a whole roomful of people.
Old School's executive producer Ivan Reitman is one of the founding fathers of the raucous, gross-out comedy genre, which effectively began with the Reitman-produced National Lampoon's Animal House in 1978.

 Old School Movie Review
Old School was directed by Todd Phillips, a film maker who's no stranger to films about fraternities (his debut was a documentary about fraternity hazing called Frat House).
Old School is also populated with hilarious supporting players including Jeremy Piven as a scheming Dean at a local college, and talk show host Craig Kilborn as the sleazy boyfriend of the woman Wilson has eyes for.
Old School features a clown drinking alcohol, kids getting knocked around by adults and an elderly man wrestling with young, naked women, but because of it©ös consistently innocuous approach, none of this stuff felt off-color.

"Old School" is the type of bawdy, free-for-all "guy" comedy that you don't see much anymore.
What "Old School" clearly displays is a young talent who knows plenty about what a chuckle needs to grow into a roar.
"Old School" is chock full of hilarious moments, mostly at the expense of iconic collegiate attitudes and the very idea of grown men living out their frat house fantasies, all while painful reminders of real life creep back into their lives.

"Old School" is as funny as it is an homage to "Animal House." It is about three guys who try to relive their college glory days by starting a college fraternity off-campus, where anyone who likes to party can join.
