Old Tongue - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Old Tongue is a fictional language from Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time fantasy series.
The Old Tongue was spoken during and shortly after the Age of Legends.
Due to the ensuing turmoil of the Breaking of the World, the Trolloc Wars, and the War of the Hundred Years, the records of this time period are generally fragmentary at best; however, it seems that a sufficient knowledge of the language itself has survived for those who wish to learn it to do so.

 Tongue End, Lincolnshire
In the early 19th century, Sundays in Tongue End were noted for drunkenness and prize fights and rival gangs often arrived from the surrounding villages to take part in these affrays.
This building and the adjoining schoolmaster's house remain the last of Tongue End's old public institutions but is now used for second hand car sales and its 19th century red brick frontage is totally obscured by masses of old vehicles.
Near to the village is Earl's Farm and the remains of the old Counter Drain railway station.

Although listed here, it should be remembered that each Old Tongue word represents a feeling rather than a thing, and that the meaning of the word varies greatly with the context it is spoken in, as well as the moods and attitudes of the speakers.
Old Tongue has no tenses or proper grammar - it is what is termed an "intuitive" language, and each word conveys meaning because of its essence, instead of an artificial system of understanding.
Old Masallan, Eldritch, and Lorenai all take their roots from Old Tongue, and often utilize intuitive language elements throughout their speaking.

The mass of the Roman populace in their native ruggedness remained aloof from this hellenizing influence and continued to speak the old tongue.
Nor is it certain that all of these owe their origin to Tertullian, but before his time they are not to be met with in the texts that have come down to us, and very often it is he who has naturalized them in Christian terminology.
Whether he made his translation from the original text or adapted previous translations after correcting them he diminished, by that much, the authority of the many popular versions which could not fail to be prejudicial to the correctness of the language of the Church.

He said there had been a single language in use all over the world (the Old Tongue), and the writing and printing of books continued throughout the Breaking, albeit to a very limited extent.
Whatever is settled upon at the end of the Breaking will henceforth be called "The Old Tongue." Presumably, the Old Tongue is spoken primarily on the main continent.

The term "tongue-tied" means that the frenulum — the membrane that attaches the tongue to the floor of the mouth — is shorter than usual.
A tongue should be able to extend past the lower lip, but if the tongue is tight, the back of the tongue lifts up (called tongue humping) while the front remains tied to the floor of the mouth.
When a baby attempts to speak or cry, the tip of the tongue forms a dent, like the shape of a heart, and the sides of the tongue lift more than the center, forming a sort of trough.

I do wonder whether "Old English" is a misnomer: surely the chage after the Conquest was so profound that it would be better to call the old tongue Anglo-Saxon, or something like that, and the new, simplified, part-frenchified tongue English, with a suitable adjective stuck on.
It's similar to the reason Old Church Slavonic shouldn't be called "Old Bulgarian", since OCS was the language of the Slavs of Thessaloniki and modern Bulgarian is continued by a different set of dialects (as is obvious in words like OCS rabU where there's lengthening and Bg.
Anglo-Saxon was sometimes a synonym of Old English, and sometimes used for particular set of dialects, during a particular time, to be distinguished from those others, which were to be known officially as Old English.

Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery - Exercise as a Treatment for Tongue Weakness in Aged Rats
The tongue has a vital role in speech and swallowing, and poor lingual control is associated with both speech and swallowing impairment.
The main hypothesis of this work is that age-related alterations in tongue function are based upon naturally occurring denervation-reinnervation processes, and these processes can be reversed or prevented via exercise.
We will test this hypothesis in a rat model by comparing physiological, biochemical, and histological parameters of old rat tongue muscles with young muscles, and with old tongue muscles that have undergone exercise.
